WHile the first WW and CM did well, their sequels bombed hard. Wonder Woman II I guess you could blame the pandemic on that, but it was also bad movie too. Haven't watched the Marvels yet, but I don't hear good things.

WW2 was it's own issue. The Marvels is a fine movie if you liked any other Marvel movie. If you didn't. then you won't like it but if you like Iron Man, etc. it's in the same vain as that. Marvels IMHO is the ultimate in superhero fatigue though. In order to really know the film, you need to have watched multiple TV shows. Sure they did explain parts of it. But if you really wanted to know it, then you had to watch Ms. Marvel and Wandavision.
I feel like the DCEU is missing a big opportunity to move ahead of the MCU. The only thing holding the MCU up right now is Deadpool. New CA will probably be trash because the show was very underwhelming, and Anthony Mackie is a not a headliner, imo. Ant Man is probably done on solo films, which is a good thing. Maybe Fantastic 4 will be good. But even with that there isn't much else on the immediate horizon that looks promising for the MCU. X-Men is probably 2.5 years away at best.
DCEU should do a full reset and not rush things this time. Set the 4-5 major characters up properly with solo films, then do a JL and set up Darkseid for the next JL. Another round of solo films where Supes faces off against Darkseid at the end of his film, setting the stage for JL2. Next Superman film starts the Superman: Doomsday saga. Then have a "Supermen" film with the replacement Supermans as part of the Return of Superman saga. Then finish out the Superman saga with Superman vs Hank Henshaw/Cyborg Superman.

I think people are tired of formulaic super hero films. DCEU has been bombing for ages. Sony Spiderverse aside from the cartoon films is dead.
I personally think end the extended universe films. It eliminates the need to overpay actors to lock into longterm film contracts. It removes continuity issues. Films that dominate at the box office can keep being made. You don't need to worry about timelines, etc.

The first problem with thr marvels is that it's not just a sequel to captain marvel. It's a sequel to that movie and 2 TV shows. The second is not realizing that the first captain marvel made bank due to being released between infinity war and end game. On its own it's very mid.
Agreed. Very similar to what's happening in AAA games right now. They push budgets super hard on a slight increase in graphics. But gameplay and story is **** and those games bomb.

Yea it’s crazy. I read a report that Spider-Man 2 had to sell 7m units to break even which is how many copies Ocarina of Time sold. Unsustainable

I don't really care about increase in graphics, I want new controls and story. Tears of the Kingdom isn't a significant graphic improvement over Breath of the WIld, but it's an amazing sequel.
To me a lot of games like CoD, Madden, etc. should just be upgraded. Release roster packs, new special game modes etc.
I also don't buy games with season passes anymore. Because it's bull****.
I'll happily buy Baldur's Gate 3 twice and merch and give them tons of money. Because they made an A+ game that doesn't need a bunch of DLC to run, or a season pass, etc. They just made an amazing game. I've put basically 500 hours into it and plan on putting in at least 100 more. I'm only on a short break because of Hades 2. Which is another amazing game. It's not even AAA. Everyone should play it if they're a gamer.
Right. That's what most actual gamers want. But that's not what these AAA studios are giving us. The free money train they had (super low interests) is over. So now we are seeing studio closures left and right. A major course correction is happening here.
The movie studios will be next to a degree. They won't close at the rate game studios are but these massiave budget movies are going to come to an end. Losing millions on these 'tent pole' movies isn't sustainable.
Agreed. Captain Marvel was no better of a first solo movie than Thor. Both were solid, but pretty forgettable among MCU films. At least Thor gave us Tom Hiddleston as Loki, who is the best character in all of the MCU, imo.

I mean they have the same issues. Big studios scooping up little studios to get their fanbases then firing everyone and releasing cookie cutter games on the back of these studio/IP reputation.

Inside Out 2 seems like the first blockbuster smash of the year, already profitable on it's first week. Halfway to DUne's global already. Looks like a potential billion dollar film. I don't know if we have another billion dollar film this year. I think we'll have some get close. Man I don't know.

Saw Horizon Part 1 last night. I can understand why the critics are by and large panning it, but it has to be viewed as the first segment in a four-part series. None of the storylines--which promise to be compelling (some more than others) either wrap up or result in a true cliffhanger at the end of the three hours and that leads to frustration. Beautifully shot. Costner really has a vision as to how use the cameras. I can see where the story is headed and I hope it doesn't become too predictable in the process. Very good cast.
I’m going to watch it. I’m a sucker for Westerns. So it basically ends like the first Lord of the Rings movie? Just ends the first movie with everything still up in the air?

It's constructed differently than the Rings trilogy. Unlike the trilogy, there isn't a clear stated singular mission from the outset outside of the general theme concerning the travails of settling the West. Horizon sets out with multiple storylines concerning three (or maybe four) sets of characters and my guess is they'll be weaving the storylines together and they will likely converge during the fourth installment. The nebulous nature of the movie is why most critics who are panning the film cite in their review. It's really a long mini-series, but Costner wanted it on the big screen and I can see why. Although the story is different, the camera work is a lot like what Costner did in Dances with Wolves. The long shots are phenomenal.
Costner has been in some stinkers over the years and I wish the critics would pump the brakes here and show some patience. The ending is really open-ended, but I think critics are viewing this like someone who quits reading a book because he doesn't like the first chapter. I think I see where the story is going to end up and I will stay on for the whole ride.
Waiting 24 years between sequels is super weird as well. I don't know what story is really left to tell. If you want to tell another Gladiator story, just reboot it, and tell a slightly different story and add a couple sequels to that one.
