Movie Thread

Gladiator 2 looks horrible. The original was so great that the follow up would be almost certainly be a let down, but My God. This looks Like the same exact movie/ plot line.

I’m extremely skeptical. But I’ll admit the fact they cast Denzel (and old ass Ridley Scott directed this one too) has me somewhat intrigued. Seems like something I’ll wait to watch on HBO Max in a year

Something came across my phone about Costners Horizon movie about it not doing well and they may stall the rest? I missed all but the headline.

Gladiator 2 looks meh which sucks. Huge fan of the original.

Ridley scott is kind of a mid director who hits a few homers. No better example IMO than his 4 film stretch of G.I. Jane, Gladiator, Hannibal, and Black Hawk Down. GI Jane is pretty terrible, Gladiator is an all timer, Hannibal is pretty bad, and Black Hawk Down is pretty good. That was a single stretch. Similar to the 80s, everyone remembers the icons of Alien and Blade Runner, but also directed Legend, Someone to Watch Over Me and Black Rain. None of those latter 3 are memorable.

I generally like his movie but you aren't wrong.

Gladiator 2 seems to be one of those "hey this was a popular movie back in the day. let's make a sequel/reboot because we don't have any other ideas" movies.

They should have just made it a complete reboot. Having it tied to the original just makes no sense at all.

I'm half expecting Denzel to give his gangster laugh and be like "My Nero"

Denzel is about the only reason I want to see it. Pedro is a great actor too. But he doesn't eat like Denzel does. Even in his bad movies Denzel puts on a show.

Speaking of sequels coming out decades later, The Passion of the Christ sequel comes out next Easter. The Passion of The Christ: Resurrection

Mel Gibson is a phenomenal director. Movie should be good

Wonder how Mel's antisemitism will show up here.

Zito thoughts on the Joker 2? Everyone is ****ting on it. Figure you could give it a positive spin

No interest in seeing it. I generally see films because of either 1. franchise, 2. amazing reviews. 3. DIrectors I'm interested in 4. Actors who almost never miss.

So like I"ll see every Nolan film, almost any Spielberg or Scorcese film, etc. I don't give a **** about Todd Philips. Joaquin Phoenix is a great actor, but he picks some bad roles too.

The Wild Robot is really good. One of the best animated films I have seen in some time. For me, it's probably the best I've seen since Up. It captures parenthood perfectly.

Saw Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice this past weekend. It's a fun watch. It's not great cinema but it captures the playfulness of the first one.

Michael Keaton is probably underappreciated as an actor.

Agreed on MK. Always enjoyed him. Star probably fizzled to fast on him. Getting a resurgence though.

I always thought Multiplicity was prett funny.

He has a best actor oscar nom, I don't think he's underappreciated, but what I'll add is that I think Keaton's range is slept on. He's not quite IMO as great as like Cate BLanchett or Gary Oldman but he's right in that range.

Gary Oldman is a good call. He did some off the wall stuff in the 90’s. Amazing actor

I feel like people don't remember how good Keaton he is. You'll see him in something, he'll be amazing, but for some reason you won't remember just how great he was.

You are right about range though. He can do pretty much anything.

The best non Super-hero action film coming out relatively soon (Jan 24) looks to be Flight Risk, starring Mark Whalberg. All other ones are Netflix quality movies.

Although Stockholm Bloodbath looks interesting. I just watched the previews the other day. It might not be terrible.
