Movie Thread

The Revenant was brutal. It could win best picture because it drains you. Leo likely gets best actor even though it's not his best performance, as a lead or otherwise (personally I think his performance in Django was maybe the finest acting we've seen in a major film in quite some time) Tom Hardy to me was the best actor on the screen. I hope he wins best supporting actor, he's kind of like Christian Bale, puts in exceptional performances whether his vehicle is artsy or blockbuster.

It's an interesting close race this year. The Big Short is gaining a lot of momentum. Speaking of Christian Bale, he's excellent in that.

Agreed on Hardy. He's good in pretty much any role. Saw a low key movie starring him called Locke last year. Really good performance.

Heading to see Deadpool this afternoon. It's got an 84 on Rotten Tomatoes and I haven't looked forward to a movie this much since the last Avengers. I'll be extremely disappointed, but not surprised, if I see kids at this today. As a parent myself, I just don't understand how some parents can be that careless/uninformed.

Deadpool was great - exactly what I expected it to be. No doubt they got the right actor to play the role, which Marvel overall has done a great job of. Looking forward to the sequel and it wouldn't surprise me to see Deadpool pop up in an X-Men movie soon.

Were that it were possible -- but the newest X-men movie has been in the can for awhile; best hope is he shows up in after-credits scene.

If you have seen the two red band trailers, the studio still shied away from some stuff. The Unrated Deadpool will be the standard

Also the next xmen movie will be in a time before Deadpool exists. The movie is going to be set in the 80's.

Jackman is apparently doing one more Solo Wolvy movie and that's it.

I'd hope they'd add Deadpool to make it like an all-star movie like Days of Future Past, Captain America Winter Soldier and now CA: Civil War..

Technically he's already been in an X-Men movie with Wolverine: X-Men Orgins.

X-Force is the likely tie-in.

I think Fox needs to reboot X-Men. THey'll be gunshy with the failure of Spider Man reboot, but make the move.

Aren't they in the middle of a reboot with McAvoy and Fassbender? I don't particularly like the way they've gone about it, but it is a new storyline with new actors playing the roles. I have a feeling the upcoming movie will establish characters (Cyclops, Jean, Nightcrawler, Storm) that we will see for several more movies.

Deadpool can't exist in that universe though as Deadpool is clearly set in modern day with references to boot. They could keep them separate, but I don't see them doing that. Rebooting X-Men with new actors in modern time would be the ideal scenario. Jackman IIRC said he only has 2 more movies he'll do. So recast the whole lot of them. They did a few things right with the original, mainly casting Stewart and McKellen.

Deadpool was solid. I'm not gaga over it. It is solid but it's not Iron Man or Guardians.

Sadly, we didn't see Gina Carano's tit. That would have been the best.

Deadpool is 100% in that universe. You can think of the current set of X-Men movies as a history lesson with the future in Days of Future Past as the farthest we will see into this universe. Now the movies are just filling in the gaps. The younger xmen in Apocaylpse will cary the torch going forward imo. The X-Men movies are happening about once a decade (in their timeline) so eventually they will catch up and when they do I forsee a huge crossover. Next we will get a Deadpool and Cable movie and then likely an X-Force movie. And then after that you'll likely see some huge crossover event between X-Force and X-Men with X-Men likely having caught up timeline wise.

Possibly. Would be a reboot though. Just in a really roundabout way. As XMen is pretty solidly set in it's early 2000s timeline, but it could make that work.

Yeah but that timeline doesn't really exist anymore. It got erased with the events of Days of Future Past. As we saw at the end of that movie when Logan woke up that Jean and Cyclops are still alive. I mean it's technically a reboot as I see the new Jean and Scott leading the franchsie going forward but they did it in a very clever way to make it where they are the same characters in that universe.

Oscars coming up Sunday. Thoughts? Predictions? Rankings?

I don't have much as far as locks. As far as likes though.

Best Picture - Mad Max - Won't win as I expect Revenant to win, but Mad Max to me was the best film made this year.
Best Actor - Leo - Can't see another winner. He was truly amazing in the Revenant. It was basically him and Hardy dominating the screen.
Best Actress - Larson - Strong performance.
Supporting Actor - Hardy - I'm seeing a lot of Stallone for the win. But Hardy was amazing in the Revenant
Animated - Inside Out
Cinematography - Revenant - After Leo's performance, Cinematography was some of the best I've ever seen.
Costume Design - Mad Max - I live, I die, I live again
Directing - Miller - I mean I think inarritu will win, but would be fun for Miller to win.
Documentary - What Happened Miss Simone - Really good film. Just watched it on Netflix
Editing - Star Wars - They did a **** ton of work in post on the film and it shows in the final film.
Makeup - Mad Max - I live, I die, I live again
Original Score - The Hateful Eight - Loved the score.
