Your contention that Green is not a max player can only be based on putting way to much weight on scoring the basketball. Green does basically everything else at a near elite level.

Again, I've never once said scoring was the reason I wouldn't max him....so if you could show me where I said that, I'd like to see it.

He's a really solid player but he's not a superstar and he's not worth a max contract. Like Giles said, put him on a different team and does he carry them?

Why isn't he a superstar?

If I'm paying a guy the max, then I would hope they would either be the go to guy or a facilitator that makes others better. If it's not the go to guy, then I better have another max type player that is a scorer.

If Green goes to another team and signs a max and plays alongside a go to type scorer like a Harden, then I'm sure he will be fine. If he went somewhere like Washington or a spot where they don't have a scorer, it is going to be a nightmare.

I wouldn't be comfortable giving max dollars to guys that aren't the best player on their team and won't be the best player on the team they sign with.

Green allows your team to switch on PnR's on defense without getting abused by the quick PG's in the league. He also allows you to bring a big out of the middle and you can run offense through him. In addition, on the fastbreak he can handle the ball and find teammates. There is so much to Green's game that I don't think you guys realize. His impact on the floor is tremendous.

Because a superstar is THE guy on your team, he can carry your team, last 2 minutes and you need a bucket? you're going to your superstar, needs to be able to do multiple things well (which Dray does), etc, etc, etc....

Dray is perfect on GSW, SAS, Cleveland any of those teams but if you think he's signing with Charlotte and making them a contender, that's not happening.

Again, if you want pay a really good glue guy a max contract, that's up to you.....not something I would do.

If Golden State loses Dray, where do they finish next year? Is it really going to hurt them? They will still be a top 2-3 team

Yes, he is a good defender and a pretty good passer for sure.

Your first point clearly shows what you think a player should be considered max for. Luckily for guys like Green the game is 48 minutes long and it can also be impacted in MANY different ways. There are only about 5 players in the league that can make any team a contender just by going on it. That doesn't mean they are the only ones that should be max. Is Melo max worthy? How about Kevin Love? What about Cousins? Are they carrying their teams to wins?

Yes
Yes
Yes

But we are talking about guys that can carry their teams to being winners. What have those guys done?

The inability that you two demonstrate to understand how basketball is a team game and that there is more to it than scoring is baffling to me.

It's a combination of those things, not just one, obviously a team can have multiple "guys"

Dray is a very good defender, good passer, does multiple things well but again.....why are you paying him 120 mil?

With the cap rising to 110 million in three years,or whatever, Draymond will be a max player entering the market this summer.

I also agree with gf that he wouldn't be a great fit for every team, but for Golden State he is one of their most important players. He's worth the max to them.

How many games do the Warriors win without Dray?

I'm pretty sure he isn't eligible for the 120 million max. He's up for the Gordon Hayward contract, essentially.

Because when you create a checklist of things that a player can do on the basketball floor and do them well...Green checks off basically more boxes than any player in the league outside of a small handful (James/Durant/Leonard/Curry/etc..).

Golden State is not the unanimous title favorite without Green. He's invaluable to their defensive scheme. What Draymond did to Anthony Davis last night in the reason número uno for that.

I just don't get how his contributions and value is overlooked.

Golden State is still the 1 seed without Dray.

Okay it's nice that you can say that, but I disagree.

What we both know is that Green single handidly shut down arguably the best player in the world yesterday. Golden State needs him more than any player in their team not named Curry or Bogut.
