The comparison between Dray and Carmelo is a bad one. They are completely different players. Not saying one is better than the other. Carmelo is a selfish player who wants his first. Draymond is the ultimate team player and makes everyone around him better. Carmelo is a scorer first and foremost. Anything he does besides that is a bonus. Draymond doesn't need to score because of the team he's on. However he is capable of scoring when needed. He could average 14-16 points if he needed to. Not even trying to compare his scoring ability to Carmelo's because there is no comparison needed. Basically if you want a great scoring threat you take Carmelo. If you want a do a little bit of everything player you take Draymond.

Also: in any salary-cap climate, several guys are going to sign max-contracts that aren't quite "full-max players" because it makes (or seems to make) sense for the team paying, or the teams bidding. That several set is likely to be a bit larger than it usually is, however, because teams are eying the rapid cap-explosion on the horizon; so a max-contract guy in the summer of 2015 is likely to be a pretty big bargain in 2017 even if he's dubiously of that echelon.

For instance: in the Bulls' case, if Butler is going to earn his maximum this summer (and he is), it's actually, strategically, a pretty good time for the team to have to pony-up. Of course, if they'd just not nickel-and-dimed him and given him the damn $12-13 million for which he was angling, they'd have one of the great bargains in the NBA already, and he'd look massively underpaid in a couple seasons (health permitting) ...

So basically you are posting a bunch of stats that help Melo because of the type of player he is. They don't actually tells us anything about him being better than Draymond. Lets just ignore that Green has a better Ortg/Drtg (laughably so).

You asked for stats....you're the one saying you would take a defensive minded role player over a top 10-15 player. Keep the hyperbole coming bruh

Thethe dream team:

Eric Maynor
Jeremy Lamb
Perry Jones
Dray
Kanter

6th man:
Waiters

Switch Draymond Green for Melo. Do the Knicks win any more games? What about the Warriors?

Knicks aren't winning anything with Dray....probably win 2-3 less games? No idea how many we won with Melo

Melo on GS? Can't really say GS would win 5-10 more games because they won everything already but that O is perfect for him, he would be wide open all day and if they dump it into him he has Klay and Curry to kick to. Play Melo at the 4 with Bogut at the 5? That's ideal for Melo

And then they wouldn't be able to switch on defense like they do and the rest of the guys would be exposed.

Melo is a ball stopper that doesn't fit well in a movement/motion offense. It would be a horrible fit.

Except Melo is actually a good passer....if you actually watch the games

Are you trying to make an argument that Melo isn't a ball stopper?

You think the motion offense that GS runs would suit him?

Melo is a great isolation player. He can score on anyone.

Why wouldn't an open look offense suit him? Melo is a great scorer and good shooter, any offense that gets its players open looks is going to fit him. Melo is a really good passer, watch the games. Him playing in an Iso heavy O like Woodsons has nothing to do with his ability as a passer.

Not to mention playing with Curry/Klay/Barnes over Calderon/THJ/Galloway is a SMALL improvement.

I watch Knick games. Melo is a talented everything but he doesn't commit to anything but scoring and offensive rebounding. Melo has been a ball stopper his whole entire career. He wants to have the ball in his hands. He would have to drastically change his game to play in GS's offense.

Green is probably getting the max, whether he's worth it is another story, but...

He can guard all 5 positions on the floor, elite pick and roll defender, improved his 3 point shot.

And good scorer elsewhere.

Pretty good rebounder, good passer.

Not a superstar, but a player with his defensive versitality is worth a max, his value doesnt show up in the stat-sheet.

Because a superstar is THE guy on your team, he can carry your team, last 2 minutes and you need a bucket? you're going to your superstar, needs to be able to do multiple things well (which Dray does), etc, etc, etc....

Dray is perfect on GSW, SAS, Cleveland any of those teams but if you think he's signing with Charlotte and making them a contender, that's not happening.

Again, if you want pay a really good glue guy a max contract, that's up to you.....not something I would do.

If Golden State loses Dray, where do they finish next year? Is it really going to hurt them? They will still be a top 2-3 team

If they lost him, 3-5 depending who they replaced him with.

It's a combination of those things, not just one, obviously a team can have multiple "guys"

Dray is a very good defender, good passer, does multiple things well but again.....why are you paying him 120 mil?

The most Dray can get is 70 mil since he's a RFA i think.
