NBA Thread

Even if you decide you need to keep Kanter, why the max? Why get it done so early? I can't imagine the market being set at max level. Kanter is everything the NBA is moving away from.

The NBA is moving away from that becuase its hard to have an Ibaka on your roster.

The Thunder baked themselves into a corner becuase of the trade they made. They can't spend that money elsewhere. They are already over the cap. The only chance you have to add talent to this roster is by retaining Kanter. I'm upset that Adams isn't going to get the chance that he deserves but he will get plenty of playing time.

If only they thought this way when James Harden wanted 4 more million dollars....

You have McGary, Adams, Kanter.....you cannot play 2 of them at the same time and expect it to work.

McGary can shoot from 15-18 feet and since he is skilled with the basketball you have to respect him in the PnR game. I'm ok if my backup front line doesn't adequately space the floor.

So you sign a guy for max dollars that can only be played with Ibaka?

No, you sign a guy that fills a tremendous need the THunder have always had. Which is a big that can play in the PnR with KD/RW.

RW was incredible when he got a chance to play with Kanter and I can't wait to see how creative KD can be.

They may or may not be adequate defensively but they are going to destroy teams on the offensive side of the ball.

He shot under 25% past 16 feet.

You don't need five lock down defenders to be successful in this league. Ibaka, KD, and RW are good enough or in Ibaka's case a great defender. Besides it's not always about individual defense as it is team defense.

So what happens if Ibaka gets hurt? The Thunder had the worst defense in the league when he went out.

I see where Kanter has value as a big next to Ibaka, but you are giving that guy max money. That's ASININE.

The NBA is a PnR league so even one weak link on defense can compromise the whole thing.

Kanter is really awful defensively but I think it can be slightly masked but what he brings to the offensive side of the ball is tremendous and something that will only make KD/RW harder to defend.

Russ isn't a good defender. The Thunder were awful defensively with Kanter on the court.

The rumored deal is 12-13 with incentives to get to the 15-17 threshold if I read that correctly. When the cap goes up that isn't going to be close to max money.

I think if they ask Russ to do less on offense then he will pick it up on that end. There are times when he is an absolute lock down defender but in the past KD/RW have had to do so much on that side of the floor where they are gassed.

When in the past 3 seasons has Russ played disciplined defense?

Just because you are athletic doesn't make you a good defender.

No. But it's basically max money now.

The Thunder's net plus/minus was negative when he was on the court. He's not a good player.

I agree that he needs to improve on that side of the ball and I believe he will as he is not asked to shoulder a tremendous burden offensively and on the glass.
