People always want to bitch about the NBA. That argument is so tired. These playoffs have been absolutely amazing.

But the NBA has problems just like any sport and they are addressing them.
 
If the NHL signed a deal with ESPN, how would Canadians watch the NHL? You think it would be a good idea to cut off hockey to Canada except for finding online streams?
 
The NBA has 2 stars that anyone gives a **** about. Lebron and Durant. (Durant much less because of being in no mans land) Hardly anyone will even give a **** unless OKC or SA meet Miami in the finals.

You think people care about Chi/Wash, Tor/Brookly, SA/Dal, Atl/Ind? This NBA playoffs is a complete snooze fest.

Meanwhile, you have bitter rivals going at it in closely contested games in the first round of the NHL playoffs.

Does Canada not have ESPN?

Also, didn't the NHL sign a separate TV deal with a Canadian television station? Would they have been prohibited from doing the same if they signed with ESPN in the US?

Ok, so the NHL got a lucky draw of "bitter" rivals. Then what happens in subsequent rounds?

You don't think people care about the NBA in markets like chicago/Washington/Dallas? They are crazy for basketball there. This has been the most exciting first round in over 20 years and the playoffs get even better in the NBA when the better teams advance.
 
Montreal and Boston are pretty bitter rivals.
Ducks vs. SJ/LA are too
Pitts and NYR/Phi are too

The last one is Chi vs. Col/Min which aren't bitter rivals, but should be a good series.

The Heat could end up facing Charlotte, Brook/Tor/Washington to get to the NBA finals. You think that is interesting basketball?

I grew up playing basketball and knew nothing about hockey. But, it's painful to watch an NBA game. Nothing in the first 40 minutes matters. Then you get to the last 2-3 minutes and every possession is a timeout. Watch 20 secs of basketball, 5 minute timeout, repeat....over and over again.
 
I don't root against any league. I love sports but it just seems strange how hockey fans go out of their way to try and bash the NBA.

I'm happy the NHL is getting healthy again. I'll turn on a stanley cup final game as a sports fan.

But, to say the NBA is not exciting is insane. Crowds are loving the closeness of these games and the ratings are showing the interest is really high.
 
Im sure there are people that are into it. I catch the wizards games if I can bc they are my team. But, I know there is a limit to what they will achieve and they aren't a very good team at all.

As for the other playoffs games, I might tune into the last 5 mins of Houston/Port or LAC/GS, but have little to no interest in any of the other series.

To compare to the NHL, every second of every game counts. A goal 5 mins into the game can be the difference in the game. Virtually, every second of the game there is something that can happen to completely change the game. And best of all, the last 3 mins of the game don't take an hour of real time.
 
Every basket and possession counts. Its like saying a win in April in baseball means less than a win in September.

There are however many possessions of a basketball game (80?) Do you get excited over a 6-0 run in the 2nd quarter?
 
Those six points contribute to the final score. If you win by 5 and never went on that 6-0 run then you might not have won.

You have made this argument so many times over. You could make the argument then in any sport. Every possession in every sport matters.
 
These playoffs (NBA) have been good but come on.

Miami could potentially go through Cha, Tor or Brooklyn, Atl/Ind/Wiz/Chi, thats one of the easiest roads of all-time.

While you have two Game 7's in NHL already, possibly 3 if Phi wins tonight.

NHL is clearly better and it's not close.
 
And you could potentially have 5 game 7's in the NBA. What is the point?

NHL is better in your eyes. The ratings do not agree. The revenues do not agree.
 
They dropped the hammer on Sterling even more so than people thought.

Silver had to do it but its a shame its because of issues pertaining to money.
 
I thought the female reporter who asked why nothing had been done until now had the best question. Anyone who thinks money didn't play a big part in this is kidding themselves. That's not to say Silver did the wrong thing, but he should have been gone a long time ago.
 
Sponsors were cancelling left and right and then they could have faced a situation where the Clippers players demanded to be excused from their contracts. It was just a move the NBA had to happen but its absurd that this man will have to sell his team.
 
Lifetime ban and 2.5 mil fine.....owners rumored to have over 75% vote to kick him out and make him sell.
