Thats a lot of money for Gortat but the cap is raising the next couple of years.

Meh, bigs get paid.

It's the same AAV as Ibaka.

Although Ibaka is younger, and Gortat is 30 but still not awful.

Gortat staying in DC, 5/60.

Can they keep Ariza too, giles?

Contract is too much, but this is interesting: "Per Basketball-Reference.com, the 2013-14 Wizards scored an additional 3.9 points per 100 possessions when Gortat was on the court and allowed 7.5 fewer to opponents over the same span. Is it any wonder they're going all-in here?"

Personally, I wanted to go after Monroe.

They probably can keep Ariza, but I would go elsewhere. Would rather let Porter develop along with Webster playing. Ideal would be to trade Webster and sign Ariza, but that isn't going to happen.

I'm more concerned with getting a couple more bodies downlow (seraphin is unknown, Booker/Gooden are free agents).

If they want a SF, I would look at Aminu.

Ariza was a huge part of your teams success last year though. Guy who can put it in from behind the arc, run in transition and play good defense. He is basically the perfect fit with Wall. I think they need to sign him but I think its going to be another overpay.

The thing the interests me about the Gortat move is how it sets you up for KD. I don't think you can offer him the max assuming you are locking up Beal by that time.

Wizards aren't winning a title in the next couple years and already have the pieces to get in the playoffs so I would try to develop young players. Right now, without another star, they are in no mans land (Hawks territory)

But that is what I am saying. With the contracts given to Wall/Gortat and the likely contract given to Beal...can they afford KD at the max?

I think the Wiz have a shot depending on Beals development and the improvement of Wall shooting wise. I don't think its a bad move to get quality vets on your team.

Yeah, they probably can afford 1 more big contract. Durant may have to take less at the start

I don't think KD cares about the money (at least in his second contract) anyway. He will just make the decision based on the team that has hte most talent to win at that time and in the future. Wiz stack up pretty well with most teams.

Indy offered Lance, 5/44, he turned it down.

He should probably get more than that.

KD was meeting with Mike Miller in LA, probably means nothing though.

If the Thunder could find a way to get Miller then we could really have something. Can't really play defense anymore but that man will hit threes from deep.

I'd agree with that, Ariza had a good year but im not sure i'd give him 10-12 mil a year it's rumored he wants.

Rockets have a huge poster out front of arena with Melo wearing a #7 Rockets jersey as part of their pitch...pretty funny considering J Lin is still under contract for them and wears #7

He posted on twitter about it....it's ugly.

A sign-and-trade deal involving Josh Smith and Isaiah Thomas "may be in the works," according to Grantland.com.

My Dad did some IT work at Toyota center today. He was standing next to Carmelo Anthony at one point and had no idea who he was. He isn't a fan of any sport. He had to google his name to find out who he was.
