"Mitch McGary was projected to go in the second round because of injuries."

Are you surprised he's been hurt? My whole point is that Presti isn't picking the guys he probably would like to. It really does seem ownership is being cheap to avoid even flirting with the tax. Which should be no surprised considering OKC traded Harden just to avoid the luxury tax.
No, but he'd be in the rotation of get spot minutes if he didnt get hurt, he's exactly what they need as the 4th big.

Pretty much every team in the NBA is avoiding the tax.

Minus the 2-4 big markets, all the teams have avoided the tax, so i dont see where you're going with this.

What team has three max players?

I'm really not to sure how this adds to your narrative. If McGary didn't get hurt he would be part of the rotation right now.

My narrative is that OKC seemed to punt their picks last year to avoid the luxury tax by having both of their first rounders in the D League.

You are right that I'm totally speculating with McGary considering he was a huge overdraft, but it's a fact that was their strategy with Huestis.

I'm not saying you are wrong since most people felt that way but how was it a "fact" with Huestis? Why not just draft an international player? Wouldn't that have brought much less criticism from the pundits?

Not sure how a guy could go from a easy top 10 pick to an overdraft in the first round the next year.

Players values do not fluctuate that much often. McGary showed very nice abiliy when he was out on the floor. Last year there were rumors that Presti was going to take McGary with the pick they got Adams in if he came out. They LOVE Mitch.

There's no room on the roster lol.

McGary is a fine pick, he'll probably replace Collison next year.

Also supposedly Charlotte was going to pick McGary but who knows.

If you like a player, then pick him, doesnt matter the projection.

They got a perimeter defender that they badly need and both Smith and Shump are better players than Waiters

JR is literally the same as Waiters.

They do need some defense, so Shump is a good pickup.

Shump is not hte same player since his injury. He has not shown to be a good defender since his rookie year or at least not the same level. JR Smith will help the Cavs for sure but he can be as big of a headache as Waiters.

True. I definitely mistook the years.

But I have said multiple times I think Presti drafts well which is entirely the opposite of what heyward is trolling me about.

Thats fine...I get the criticism with this past years draft becuase the majority feels that way. Its hard to defend Heustis objectively but the Thunder truly like McGary and had every intention of him in the rotation this year. Collison has his moments but he is very unreliable now.

Because Huestis came out and said he had a pre draft deal with the Thinder to go to the D League and his agent said they took it because they were unsure he was going to drafted.

Let me find the projection on McGary. I was pretty I read that he was a second round projection.

Heat. Lakers. Nets. Knicks. Clippers

Is that why Miami dumped Mike Miller to avoid the mega tax?

Lakers/Nets/Knicks are 3 teams who have unlimited money.

Clippers arent even over the tax, i dont think.

Really? Because a big reason why Lebron left the Heat was because they waived Mike Miller to not pay the tax.

Hey look at how great those teams are paying the tax. Thats a great strategy!

You always tell me how great the Nets are.

Who cares how they are doing, we said the Thunder are avoiding tax........true or not?

Come on my friend...you don't think I know what happened in the draft with Huestis? I'm an absolute nut when it comes to the Thunder and read everything out there. I know about the arrangement. But, as I was saying, if as you suggested the Thunder only took him to save money then why not just draft an international player and stash him like so many other teams do?
