I would wager that over the course of the next 10 years (assuming O'Quinn is even a pro) that Adams far and away exceeds him in every rim protection metric.
Why doesn't he now? Adams is like 50th in the NBA.

thethe, you tend to get caught up in the newest craze and ignore everything else. I'm certainly not saying rim protection is worthless. But, it seems you are saying you shouldn't draft Okafor because he is not a rim protector so he will never win anything. There are many good teams in the NBA that don't have a top rim protector.
Ok, are you going to get that top player because he isn't on your roster right now.

Again, I'm not wasting my center spot on someone who potentially would not be a defensive asset when the league is shifting to a perimter oriented game.
Shaq, sure.......but Kobe > Pau and Bynum......that's not debatable.
Tim in his prime, absolutely but not as he aged. Which is why it took them 6-7 years to win another....they re-tooled and landed KL.
Again, as I've been saying time and time again the whole Thunder defense is predicated on funnelling everything to Ibaka. Every other player on the teams job is to do that. Adams is an excellent low post defender and when called upon (we might see it this year becuase Kanter could start along side Ibaka) I feel comfortable that Adams will be an excellent rim protector.
So what do you want the thunder to do at center then?

Duncan is still the focal point of that team. Stats to not do Duncan justice. His impact is tremendous on every game they play.
Luckily the Thunder have Serge Ibaka and can do that.
How many Serge Ibaka's are there in the NBA?
You act like Ibaka is the great rim protector in the history of the NBA.

Name good teams that don't have good rim protectors. If there are any, then they are few and far between.
Atlanta
Dallas
Houston (without Dwight)
Memphis (Koufos only plays 16 min per game)

Seriously Giles... I cannot believe you would take this position. I think you are just playing devils advocate to everything thethe says.
Horford is -0.30 points saved per 36. He's allowing 51% at FG% at the rim.
Chanderl is 0.40 points saved per 36. He's allowing 51% at the rim.
Gasol is -0.38 points saved per 36. He's allowing 48.6% at the rim.
Points saved per 36;
Chandler 34th
Horford 44th
Gasol 46th
Where am I wrong?
Horford
Chandler
What Houston is doing is incredible which is why Harden is the MVP right now
Gasol and Kouf
So you don't think rim protection is important?
