Neverending **** the Police thread.

Good thing there are multiple major news media that ensure both Republicans and Democrats talking points get heard.

What you are getting at is the partisan hacks like Hannity will claim Biden wants to defund the police. When people point out that it is fake news the right will point to the protesters saying that. Which will still make it fake news.

The idea of defunding or disbanding is not the same as moving to a world without police. It reflects a conclusion that some cities may draw that the current arrangement is beyond reform: "rotten barrel" as opposed to "rotten apples"

So you get rid of the whole barrel and start over with something different.

In the field of education, charter schools represent an effort to do an end-run against entrenched interests. Something similar will likely emerge with respect to policing. It's not going to be easy at all. There is no magic wand out there.

Is this an accurate description of the BLM plan to defund the police?

The police themselves will tell you they are given too many tasks which are not related to policing. They are often responding to situations involving mental illness and social ills. Police would actually welcome a reduction in their roles in these areas. Same thing with rowdy kids in schools. We see all these stories nowadays of police being called on kids in school, some quite young. This is another area where police have been increasingly tasked with performing functions they are not really well-suited for.

There are some issues in Minneapolis that pre-date the killing of George Floyd, but are also reflective of what is going on elsewhere. Simply put the police have come to regard themselves as sovereigns of their own kingdom. The head of the police union in Minneapolis effectively drove out the prior police chief. The police in New York think it's acceptable to turn their backs on the mayor. Well whatever you think of de Blasio he is the duly elected representative of the taxpayers of New York. The actions of police in New York (and elsewhere) is rank insubordination. If that is to be their attitude I say get rid of them (see Ronald Reagan and the air traffic controllers).

This is peak police. The black man is a social worker trying to corall an autistic patient who got out of his group home. The patient has a toy train which someone mistakes for a gun. Cops show up and order both on the ground at gun point while the patient sits and plays with his train. A cop then shoots the black man and says he was trying to shoot the patient. In what ****ing worldndonyou point a gun at the hostage and threaten to shoot them instead of letting them walk away. The patient never at any point did anything threatening to social worker or prevent him from walking away. I just cant wrap my brain around this.

You think peoplr are going to vote for this. The imagery will be powerful come November.

Listen “Jace Petersen is a 4 WAR GUY”

No one is gonna change their vote on a photo op. And this isn’t nearly as weird as Trump holding up the Bible in terms of optics.
