New Manager Discussion

Now I'm reading some speculation that Chipper was pro-WW. So if the choice was WW + Chipper vs Lehmann + some other hitting coach, I think the choice became less obvious.

I have to think about it longer, but I may be of the opinion that Chipper as full time hitting coach is more valuable than Lehmann over WW as manager. So if Lehmann meant no Chipper, for any reason, I think I prefer the choice that gets Chipper working with these hitters every day.

This is all speculation, of course.

I also would rather have a competent manager over Chipper as a full time hitting coach. I am in the minority that a manager can have much more influence on the game than many think. I think the Braves are a playoff team last year with a better manager/real leader who understood how to put his players in the best position to succeed.

I also don't want a guy as a hitting coach who would 'take his ball and go home' if his friend wasn't hired as a manager. yeah.. no thank you to that BS.

I think we will likely hear rumor upon rumor for the next couple of weeks. Who knows, maybe Lehmann looked at all that still remains of the "Braves' Way" and he didn't want to buy that cow. Curious about Chipper's input--if he indeed had viewpoints that Anthopoulos seriously considered--and whether and how much input he'll have going forward. I'm hopeful he can get Harris and Albies to take his advice but not optimistic that they will. Acuna probably won't listen, but he doesn't really have to when it comes to swinging the bat.

It’s not speculation… Chipper flat out on Twitter personally gushed over how much he loved the hire

If given the choice, I think Walt would take Chipper over Hyers. Guys have been fired before. I haven’t had a chance to read and listen to everything from today yet. Heard some of AA’s radio interview on the drive home. He talked about how Weiss of course interviewed early on and AA said to himself it was going to be tough to beat. I didnt hear the obvious follow up asked of what made his interview so outstanding. He also went out of his way to say the narrative that McGuirk overruled him was the craziest thing he’d ever heard - which might mean it’s true.

I don't like this move either, in fact it makes me sick. But I'm trying to be optimistic somehow. My only hope is that a condition of Weiss getting the job was that he agreed to defer to the front office on strategy decisions, and that he will agree to hire a more forward thinking bench coach to help with strategy also.

I just don’t believe anything AA says anymore, and I get the impression he thinks all fans are idiots.
