New Manager Discussion

Now that Brian Snitker is officially stepping down as Braves manager, let’s discuss and debate (in a civil manner) who will be stepping in his place. A list below of some guys who I think could be in the mix. Feel free to add your thoughts and ideas

Skip Schumaker (Though I think he’ll take over for Bochy in Texas)
David Ross
Eddie Perez
Walt Weiss
Mark DeRosa
Bob Melvin

There is chatter-albeit from people who may not know- that there is some sentiment for TDA.

He had an awful year and may not be ready to hang it up, but he's likely a guy that would command respect from the dugout.

I never thought this thread would come. I just hope it is not some old 90's Bobby Cox relic that thinks baseball should still be played like the good ol' days. It is time to have a leader that makes hard decisions, that tells the players what they are going to do that is best for the team and season and not asking them, understands leverage, lineup construction and game planning. Also be involved with other coaches to make sure the org has one direction and philosophy..

If the choice were TDa or snit, I choose TDA. The choices now are vast, so hell no on TDA. On the staff, sure

I like TDA a lot. But I think I would rather not have him learn on the job while we're in our competitive window. If this were like 2017 and weren't expected to be competitive right away,. then sure, I would love to give him a shot. But we could lose a lot of close games next year as he tries to figure out all the intricacies of being a manager.

Chuck Tanner was the last manager the Braves hired outside the organization. Almost 40 years of internal replacements (I’m counting Fredi as internal given he was hand selected by Bobby).

Schumaker, DeRosa or Ross are probably the short list of guys they're looking at.

Thats what the ESPN article speculates as well. But it's just speculation. Does anyone recall much about Ross when he managed the Cubs? I just know it didn't work out.

DeRosa I don't see why he should even be considered. Does he have management experience?

I dont think DeRosa does but he lives in Atlanta i believe. But you never know how one will be as a manager until they become one. Schumaker might be the safe choice, but he'll have plenty of other teams after him this offseason.
