That is logical and would certainly open up the universe to more than the usual suspects.

Now that we're here, we might as well peel off Miller, since his control doesn't correspond with our target year which is probably 2020.

Unfortunately I don't see a match with the Giants for Shelby. They just don't have the young potential impact bats. Cubs and Dodgers are a match though
 
They do have some pieces I like though. I'm very high on Christian Arroyo and some people project him to land at 3B long term. Mac Williamson and Andrew Susac are intriguing too.

That was an ACTUAL deal. Meaning it was actually done.

Dahl was listed as the 47th best prospect. McMahon #50. Nunez is a catcher who isn't on the top lists. None of those players are players that the Rocks can't move or won't move. McMahon is blocked by Arenando. Dahl is blocked by Blackmon and Dickerson AND is an injury concern. Nunez is blocked by about 4 other catchers.

I hear you, but I honestly don't believe Miller actually has the same value as Kimbrel. First, there are very few, if any, other teams who would have given up what Boston did for Kimbrel. And I'm pretty sure they wouldn't have given up that package for Miller.

You just can't take a bad deal by one team and then assume other teams would make similar deals. I agree Coppy should be pushing for anything he can get, but we shouldn't get upset if he's unable to find a team willing to do a similar deal.

You are 150% correct.

Miller is the type of pitcher the Braves are realistically hoping a few of the lottery tickets they have been acquiring eventually become. He may not be a true Ace, but he is undeniably a TOR guy, he has about as little injury concern as a pitcher can possibly have, appears to be a model person/teammate, and is pretty cheap for 3 more years. If anything the Braves should be looking to extend him by buying 1-2 of his FA years.

Unless a team is willing to fill 2 positions long term, keep Miller. The only teams capable of doing that are probably the Astros, Cubs and Dodgers.

Extenting Miller is worth a try. Usually those deals are better done before a player reaches arbitration, but it is worth a try. I do wonder if Miller views Atlanta as a desirable place to spend the next few years of his career. He might not be inclined to do a team friendly or even neutral deal.
 
The Giants need a pitching boost, someone who can feed off lefthander Madison Bumgarner. The aforementioned free agents would certainly fit the bill, but Evans is also looking into the trade market, where Atlanta’s Shelby Miller and Julio Teheran have been discussed.

But the Braves and other teams have been trying to pry from the Giants third baseman Matt Duffy and second baseman Joe Panik, players Evans and executive vice president Brian Sabean don’t want to deal.

A lot of rumors this week around Miller (and sometimes Teheran) with the Braves seeking MLB position players. I'm encouraged by this. I don't want to see these guys traded for pitching prospects. Either keep them or trade them for MLB position players or MLB-ready position player prospects.
