Next Move?

The problem is Hart/Coppy have severely limited how we can build an offense. The crap Olivera trade now that he can't play 3B and Markakis for the next 3 years in RF blocks two logical spots where we could target young high impact bats. We essentially have to completely ignore the OF when trading and that's a problem. On the surface we're all in on rebuilding yet we invest in Olivera/Markakis and plan to spend all available funds this offseason on bullpen help. We should be looking to deal Markakis now.

::cough cough:: Olivera to second. ::cough cough::

On the Rule 5 guys, Goeddel looks like an interesting prospect. I love the name Aristides Aquino, but he's really far away from the big leagues. Cave and Hernandez also look interesting, but Cave would be redundant to Mallex Smith.

I thought Cave might have more power than Mallex.. but I don't remember.. but I see nothing wrong with getting more of those types. they can always be an extra piece on a trade next offseason. Can they be traded at the deadline if they had been on the roster for 90+ days?!?

I just know the Braves should be able to pick up at least one 'good' player since they pick 3rd..I think a lot of other teams will pass not wanting to take a roster spot. That being said.. we already have Winkler, so I can't see the Braves grabbing more than one player.

Pirates have picked up Allen Webster. Another head scratcher we didn't go after him. Huge arm and talent but obviously has struggled putting it together. He's the type of guy we should be targeting.

Not sure why that's a head-scratcher personally. He's out of options and has worse command than Folty. Where would you put him (even if you could get him through waivers)??? As of today...

Big Club Rotation:

Miller, Teheran, Wisler, Folty, Banuelos, Perez, Weber

Gwinnett Rotation:

Folty/Banuelos, Perez/Weber, Jenkins, Newcomb, Sims, Gant, Ellis

Mississippi Rotation:

Ellis, Bird, Thurman, Janas, Kinman and potentially Sanchez, Fried, Toussaint, Soroka, and Allard at some point in the second half.

Great arm, terrible command. I could see picking a guy like that up if you think you could "fix" him and transition him to a pen piece while tucking him away in Gwinnett, but you can't send him down without getting him through waivers. We've already got plenty of relievers that can't throw strikes.

I know this post was about not signing Webster, but can we all take a second and think about how fun the minor league season is going to be this year? It's likely that just about every night we will see an exciting pitching prospect take the mound in one of our affiliates.

multiple exciting pitching prospects now that Weber is so High..:elefant:

How about leaving him in LF, followed by Markakis to Baltimore for Jason Garcia and Parker Bridwell (for the pen), Teheran to Colorado for McMahon, and Miller to the Rangers for Mazara perhaps???

2017:
CF- Smith, SS- Albies, 1B- Freeman, 3B- McMahon, RF- Mazara, LF- Olivera, 2B- Peterson, C- Bethancourt (or whomever)

Strasburg, Newcomb, Sims, Banuelos, Wisler (Allard, Fried, Toussaint, and Soroka in the Gwinnett rotation)

Vizcaino, Folty, Paco, Simmons, Withrow, Garcia, Bridwell

(Sure is fun to daydream, ain't it???)

I wouldn't be completely opposed to that plan, but while I might take Mazara for Miller, it would take quite a bit more than just McMahon to get Teheran.

Corey Black would be the guy I'd target for the Rule 5 draft.

I'm not surprised 20 teams have checked in on Miller. We should be able to find a team who is interested in Miller and Markakis. A young controllabe ML ready RF coming back would have to be part of the package. We could fill holes, get younger, and shed money.

Methinks I need to keep to keep my minor league updates up to date, as it were. I agree; every night will feature a prospect somewhere.

The Dodgers checked in on Miller. What would be reasonable from them for Miller?

Not sure, most of their best prospects are pitchers as well. I'd push for something like Verdugo and Barnes, plus something else.

I like Turner, but he only has one year left, and Puig is intriguing, but we couldn't bring back anything else in addition to him.

A.J. Griffin released by A's today. Sign him to minor league deal, invite him to camp. Another year past TJ surgery, and at his best is a fly ball pitcher (perfect for the Ted). Really liked him when he was A's young gun.

I'd bet Seager is a no go. Urias, Pederson, Guerrero, Peraza, De Leon are all the players that would have to be in play imo. I'd want 2 from that group and I'd add a piece if we needed. Urias, Pederson, and Guerrero for Miller and Mallex would be ideal. We get a power hitting cf'er, a stud starting pitching prospect, and our 3b back.

That would be a crazy weak return for Miller. Verdugo is very meh. I'd push for Joc and Barnes myself, since Seager and Urias are obviously off limits.

My point was to grab him and put his power arm in the bullpen where many people have expected him to land.

De Leon, Verdugo, and Barnes for Shelby. Then sign me up
