Official 2017 Trade Deadilne Thread

I think he's going to be a Super 2.

The more I think about it, the more I like it. I think we can replace him before we end up being competitive, and if it nets us 1 or 2 position players this year that could be ready at 2019, then im in. Wright may step right in end of next year in his role and be an upgrade.

Would Folty bring a haul from houston ?

If the return were significant enough, I'd absolutely make him available.

I hope the Braves disagree with you. Folty is cheap, skilled, established, and still improving. Next year he will be one of the "experienced" guys that we all know the rotation will be required to have.
Also, we need to stagger the arrival, arb, and FA times of the pitchers as they come up. We should have no less than 3 other rotation spots filled from the farm before we consider trading Folty, otherwise the rebuild failed and it will be time to tear it down again.

The fact that we drafted Wright does change my thinking a bit as far as willingness to trade pitching prospects currently in the system. And I believe it will have an effect on the FO's thinking as well.

I think we are more likely to part with pitching prospects than guys currently in the rotation like Folty and Teheran. Someone like Jaime Garcia obviously is a different case since he's just a rental.

Guys like Folty and Newcomb have the ability to dominate. Who knows if they'll get there or not, but I think those are the guys you keep. We're trying to acquire as many as those as we can to find a few that stick.

I have no idea, but he will be going through arby soon right? I'd either offer him a team friendly extension, or shop him.

I would think he would bring the most of our current crop?

Here's hoping Coppy is already talking to Folty's representatives about that extension - something that mirrors Julio's deal. Say 5 years and $33.8 million. Should take care of him for life with the opportunity to still cash in one more time at a relatively young 31.

Michael Pineda torn UCL. Looks like this is going to be one of those trade deadlines where the market for starting pitching will be very strong. Decreases our chances for getting someone like Gray. Might be able to get a Travis Demeritte type player for Jaime Garcia.

If DMGM's seriously interested in Garcia to help their back end, I'd be all over a Jaime for Matias or Kahlil Lee deal.

Not what I said. I was banging the drum hard to sell him back when it should have been done.

However, this whole idea of adding at the deadline, at competitors prices, is idiocy.

And, of course you shop Teheran and anyone else not named Freeman, Inciarte and Swanson at the ML level right now. If you get a good enough return then you have to strongly consider it.

Everyone just assumes that somehow Teheran will turn it around and get better and they say that would be the time to move him. 1. If he gets good, why would the Braves want to move him and 2. If he continues to decline then they are stuck with him at a time when they should be competing. His fastball has been declining for years. The chances of him getting better than he is now are only marginal IMO.

He's already showing signs of improvement in his last couple of starts. And his road stats are still strong. Couple that with his career averages and I'd say here is actually a much higher chance of him getting back to his normal self than him declining.

You're not the only one. They already wasted the bulk of his value, so don't sell low on him now.

Even with a perfect storm brewing, I can't see Julio's value higher than last deadline. Again, if Coppy was trying for Quintana...he isn't trading Julio. If we saw some of the offers he's turned down...we might pass out.

Teheran is 26. He has a history of being up and down. His home/road splits are so different as to make one think that whatever is going on isn't necessarily entirely physical.

It isn't exactly so much as assuming a turnaround as feeling like its probable based on past performance and splits that things should stabilize a bit.

And at the end of the day, the idea isn't so much that he's going to start pitching well above his peripherals again so much as it is that something well below his peak performance is still worth his contract to a team that wants to be good.
