Official 2017 Trade Deadilne Thread

Heyman's latest Braves Notes:

The Braves were linked to Jose Quintana, but that seemed to be overblown the whole time. Chris Sale was the White Sox pitcher they liked. The ChiSox asked the Braves for Ronald Acuna, and the Braves said no. So it appears they were never close on Quintana.

Acuna, 19, is a five-tool outfielder with one scout calls “stupid power.” He’s being promoted to Triple-A, as reported by David O’Brien of the Atlanta-Journal Constitution.

There’s some trade interest in Jaime Garcia.

Eaton's contract:

2017 4m
2018 6m
2019 8.4m
2020 9.5 Option
2021 10.5 Option

Eaton was a 5.2 WAR in 2014 and 6.2 WAR in 2016. (3.9 in 2015)

By contrast:

Heyward 1 year/7.8m 6.2 WAR the preceding season -- signed for 8/184
Upton 1 year/14.5m 3.2 WAR the preceding season -- signed for 6/132.5

If you believe in WAR Eaton was a better player than Upton the year before he was acquired and was 9 million dollars cheaper with years of control remaining.

Heyward was a slightly better player by WAR (correction: actually they had equal value according to WAR), but more expensive and had already made it plain he was going to hold out for a ginormous contract.

Not hard to see why a team would give up more for Eaton.

Fair enough. I concede to you guys on this one. Really underestimated how good Eaton has been.

Bowman: "Astros general manager Jeff Luhnow knows Garcia from the time they spent together with the Cardinals. The veteran left-hander has struggled lately, but his stuff seemed to be rounding back into form through the first four innings of last week's start against Houston. If Garcia has a couple good starts out of the break, the Braves might be able to pry outfielder Derek Fisher from the Astros. Another potential target could be catcher Jake Rogers."

I can't imagine any possible way they give up Fisher in a deal for Garcia. That would be insane.

I don't want Fisher for Teheran but freaking sign me up for getting him for Garcia. Let's throw a couple pen arms in and add Rogers to the package lol

Bowman needs to stick to something he knows about like Krispy Kreme donuts.

You know, before last year, Gray was actually very durable... two straight 200 inning seasons. Gotta think his struggles last year were injury related. While his surface numbers aren't amazing this year, his peripherals are very good and he's been good lately. I think maybe the rust is off and he's finally healthy again. The question is this, was last year just an injury plagued campaign or is it the start of something concerning? I say given his peripherals and his increased velocity that it's behind him. If we can get him for Anderson and Pache, I'd do it.

Coppy could really hurt or help the rebuild at the deadline. I don't think we stand pat. I think we make some big moves. The Only question will be if they are smart or hasty moves.

Yeah. That's crazy, but Jake Rogers is a guy who could be a riser. He's a glove first catcher with an eye and power. He'll always have value

Gray has seemed a better target for us to me than Quintana. I think we might be able to get him for Anderson. Or Wentz plus Touki. We'd be paying something close to the contender's premium in both cases.

I do either of those in a heart beat.

If we could get Rogers for Garcia it would be a steal, but I don't see it happening.

I'm not that picky on the potential return for Garcia. I don't see any way we could get someone like Derek Fisher for him.
