Official 2022 Offseason Moves Thread

Buster Posey is going to announce his retirement tomorrow at a press conference he has called.

Jackie Bradley Jr exercised his $9.5m player option and will return to the Brewers for 2022

Jurickson Profar also exercised his $6.5m option to remain with the Padres for 2022

Giants do have Joey Bart but Posey was so good this year. HOF lock.

Great way to go out if he does announce. Really came back big-time this year. Added about .200 OPS to his 2019 figure.

I think we'll eventually sign Freeman, but i dont think it'll be quick like Friday/this weekend. For the Braves sake, would sure hope they do though.

Well, I suppose it’s to be expected that after a highly unlikely run of success folks on this Baird would overvalue every current member of the roster.

Guys who were acquired at the deadline for nothing are still the same players they were a few months ago. Pitchers who proved to be mediocre during the season will still be mediocre in 2022.

The only things that must happen are bright back Freeman and Soler, or bats that will approximate their production. And then someone who can handle CF. Then another SP to slot in the 4 spot.

Have we all decided that Duvall is an above average CF now? I'm not particularly well versed in defensive metrics, but his 210 innings there this year were the entirety of his experience there and he just turned 33. I'm not sure how badly I want to be having him be plan A in CF next year, particularly given that the DH is in play now. Feels like everyone has just moved on from Pache, but I fully expect him to start 100+ games next year.

Would love to see a Freeman deal announced at the parade. That would be an incredible move.

Soler is the OF I want back the most, especially assuming DH. Rosario would probably be next, though I would definitely prefer Conforto if given the choice. If we can't bring Soler back, Garcia wouldn't be the worst additional RH OF bat to add.

On the pitching side, I think its risky to only go in with three established guys. You can reasonably expect at least one of them to miss some time during the year, and you don't want to be in a position where you're relying on something like Davidson-Muller-Strider going three of every five days. I'd be looking in the range of Alex Cobb or Alex Wood. Maybe a flier on Zach Davies. Looking at the FA list I saw that Carlos Martinez is only 30, which feels impossibly young for how long he's been around.

Someone said it earlier, but I love the idea of a veteran righty. Graveman, Neris (gross), Knebel, or even Yimi Garcia would check that box for me.

Conforto had an off year in 2021, but I've always liked him. I don't know if he's held in such high regard that a one-year "prove it" deal would be considered an insult, but I'd run it by him and see.

Very high likelihood he will be offered a qualifying offer by the Mets and accept. He'd get more doing that than he would with a prove it deal. Especially if he's attached to a comp pick.

Living in NY, you would likely know. Would be a bit of surprise to me, but Mets have deep pockets and Conforto is a good bounceback candidate.

Saw he's very unlikely to accept the QO if he's offered it.

Any chance they would give a QO to Syndergaard instead? I imagine that is what they were trying to evaluate when they got him in a few games at the end of the season.

You can give QO's to two players if you want. Nats did it with Stras and Rendon after the 19 season.

One of the best ever. Sad he couldn't stick around to climb higher but he knows his body.

It's to spend more time with his family, has 4 kids. But he is coming off a great year, and the universal DH is coming. He's pocketed a ton of money already though.

I hope the massive amount of money the team made from this run get put back into the team.

Very interesting to see what happens with Ozuna.

I think we see in the playoffs that 5th starters are not important unless you have injuries. I'm thinking Elder, Strider, Wright, Ynoa, minimum vet give you solid options for depth and 5th starter. I would like us to invest in another quality starter with that WS money.

I'd imagine after the run we went on, it would be a little easier to lure a veteran SP our way....let Smyly walk. I'm curious to see the contract Scherzer gets this offseason.

It would never happen, but a guy can dream after winning the WS!

Scherzer
Morton
Fried
Anderson
Soroka/Ynoa/Wright/Touki

Having watched Dylan Lee and Tucker Davidson start World Series games, I wouldn’t mind investing in a high quality mid rotation starter.

I know we love penciling in Morton (age) and Soroka (health) but each are question marks for reasons.

Beyond that, I would focus on high quality COF and 1B signings. Obviously Soler and Freeman are top tier solutions (and I think are likely to resign), but I expect AA to have excellent backup plans (Rizzo/Bryant).

Unfortunately, Ozuna is like the Mike Hampton contract of the 00’s. Basically, we will need to take our payroll and deduct his salary from the top and hope for a suspension to cover the difference. I don’t envision him playing ever again.

I think Elder and Strider both have a shot at decent big league futures, but Strider hasn't pitched 100 innings as a pro yet. Some gaudy numbers and some electric (if still somewhat inconsistent) stuff, but I don't see him on the Opening Day roster unless the front office comes up drastically short in the off-season or he blows up during Spring Training. I just don't like watching on-the-job training at the big league level. Elder threw almost 140 innings (36.2 of which were in AAA), but supposedly the ceiling on his stuff grades back of the rotation.

I don't want them to throw a big contract at a fringy veteran just to say we have another veteran in the rotation, but I think they will need an experienced arm at least in the early going.
