Exactly so why wouldn't we feel comfortable doing that for the heart of the team. Chipper instilled in him the Braves Way. With DH more than likely coming next season it just gives us even more reason to because he could slide in there when he starts to slip defensively.

It's a puzzler to me. They are either going to have to send a considerable chunk of change with Kimbrel to get a decent prospect or settle for less-than-optimal return. Seems it would have made more sense to just let him walk.
I hope and believe that Freddie realizes what AA already knows.
If he insists on a six year high dollar contract, the Braves competitive window will be shortened by several years.
Chipper is the example. In the latter years of his career, he reduced his salary in return for adding additional years at smaller numbers.
Sticking the Braves with an albatross contract as he begins to decline in a few years would make the Braves look like the Angels who have had a couple of high paid stars, but never been able to surround them with a competitive team.

At this point, they have to get something for him. They gave up some really good prospects to land him at the deadline. So either A.) They can't trade him for a decent enough return and keep him, hoping he rebounds. or B.) They trade him for a package, much less than what they traded to get him
I wouldn't be so sure about the Dodgers blowing the budget on pitching. They'll likely bring Kershaw back at a reduced rate, they have Price for one more year (and his numbers weren't exactly "awful" when you consider he never had a specific role). May will be back at some point. Gonsolin could go back to starting on a regular basis. They also have Pepiot and Miller knocking on the door. Given how analytically-inclined they are, it's not that hard to see them leaning more towards the Rays' way of handling a staff. Instead of splurging on SPs, it wouldn't exactly be shocking to see them add MOR guys with upside like DeSclafani, Wood, Pineda, etc. and wind up with a whole lot of arms who could be bulk guys.
I don't think Freddie would much care for playing in New York either, but he's a perfect fit there - and it's not like signing him would be the first time they chose to spend money on flashy offensive signings rather than pitching. Green and Loaisiga have been starters in the past, and it also wouldn't be shocking to see them count on Severino and Taillon returning to health and being dominant after they just finished gambling on someone like Kluber.
The point is there are a lot of places Freddie would fit - and not signing him much earlier when he would have cost much less turned out to be a huge mistake.

I wonder if winning a world series with us changes anything on his end. At this point, he has no unfinished business here in Atlanta. He lives in California during the offseason. I wouldn't be shocked if he left this offseason to be honest.

Doubtful. They just likely intend to trade him.
I think they're fine paying a chunk of that contract to recoup some prospects, after questionably sending out Madrigal.

He got his World Series here so he might not be hungry and feel as obligated to win another here. Who knows but if the Angels blow him away he could be gone. If he is I’d turn to Kris Bryant pretty quick. Rizzo would be my plan C. They have to have a pretty good idea of what’s gonna happen with Ozuna by now. Bc having that money available would really be huge for repeating.

FWIW, AA told a radio station here in Atlanta he fully expects to have everyone back next year. Some of that is hyperbole, but there has been no euphemisms thrown around about "Well, moving forward we're going to do what's best long term" or "we have to make sure our priorities line up with Freddie's" or stuff like that. It would be an absolute PR death sentence not to have Freddie here next year, and given that Truist has to be reasonably full for LM to make any money, given how things are set up now, they can't afford to let their biggest star walk out the door. That is the one talking point from a bygone era that you still hear around here, btw. "Liberty Media's not gonna spend money." Nevermind that payroll has gone up considerably since Truist opened. That's the last narrative to die, and it would not at all shock me to see AA go wild this offseason. This FO saw what a perennially dominant Braves team would to from a "Butts in seats" perspective, and there's no chance that Schiller, McGuirk, or AA are that oblivious as to what their customer base expects of them. It would be bad business from a box office perspective to let Freddie sign somewhere else.

As weak as our prospect list is at the present I doubt WSox desire them and also doubt AA would pile another $16M plus the ego involved into the pen.

He's probably a six-year free agent and could have gone anywhere without restrictions on the team that signed him unless he went on our 40-man. I doubt anyone would have taken him in the Rule 5, but he did have a performance uptick this season (big jump in K-rate) and they probably want to keep him in the system.

Nah, you trade or release Swanson in that scenario.
Not having Freddie or Dansby would really infuriate the casuals though.
