Official 2022 Offseason Moves Thread

Have to think FF probably jerked AA around a good bit for it to come to this.

There is no way we didn't offer something competitive.

With his suitors narrowing, does he get that 6th year?

I think you’re spot on. AA couldn’t wait forever and FF wanted more than we could offer. It wasn’t about the staying in Atl it was about his pocket book and this showed it. I hope Freddie goes to the AL.

So what’s Alex’s next move? I know Kris Bryant isn’t popular with some but he’s a good ball player and can play 1b, 3b, and the OF. He won’t cost as much as FF would have. Soler, Rosario, Greinke, and Castelonus are all still out there. What other pitchers?

I wonder if FF used LAD to drive up the asking price from us, and I wonder now that we got Olson, if it has hurt his market. Now that NYY got Donaldson I doubt they're gonna wanna throw even more money at FF.

Unless a darkhorse like Texas comes in, FF may have just hurt his own market and possible LAD lowers their offer.

Soler, Rosario and Castellanos would all require moving Ozuna IMO. Money available now possibly means AA can move up a few notches from Greinke.

I think Toronto is still a legit possible destination.

We spent 138 million last year?
2020 would have been almost 160, but that is extrapolating from the prorated payroll.

Are we thinking 150 million to spend with 10 million in reserve?

Why so? Right now, our Opening Day OF would be Duvall-Waters-Heredia. We need some bodies in a bad way.

Ozuna is an ineffective OFer with cost. As a DH trade chip he could bring in other position trades. Then you can take your pick of any of the available FA DHs and money is there also.

Moving Ozuna would open you up to guys like Conforto, Schwarber, as well.

Just as an aside: Any high paid exec at Liberty Media would have been fired on the spot. I understand contracts but I wonder if LM has suggested to AA that he move Ozuna on if possible.

If the Reds are selling, can we get Senzel to play CF? Do we have anything left to give?

I thought AA said number 1 goal was to get a true CF....who could that be? There isn't a free agent IMO.

If payroll isn’t at the least the same from last season, it would be very disappointing and send a pretty clear message about our future expectations.

We have Will Smith off the books after this season. (He has a team option but don't see us picking it up unless we're desperate for BP help).

I think payroll will increase from last year.
