Official 2022 Offseason Moves Thread

lol people blaming LM at this point are just being obtuse and butthurt someone they like isn't here anymore.

Yep. I have no doubt AA could have signed Freddie if he wanted to. He made a baseball decision. It was a hard one to make but it was probably the correct call.

Most reasonable fans are thrilled we were able to replace Freeman with Olsen. There was just too much sentimental value towards Freeman, but not enough from him I guess.

I’m not hating on him at all for taking the best deal possible.

I guess Chipper and to an extent Smoltz spoiled us with their willingness to take less and not wait until free agency to do it.

just the nature of the business. Those same fans are gonna be very upset when we don’t back up the truck for Dansby either.

thankful we have a GM that understands the team’s needs are priority. I have no doubts if it was a few million AA would have done it. But Fred dragging this out and then using us to get LAD or whoever to up their price, I have no issue with AA pulling the trigger now before the market for Olsen heated up and then we didn’t sign Freddie.

That's all it is. After Andruw left I've stopped carrying about these sort of things. I just care about how good the team is going to be. Braves not signing Freeman and Olson being traded somewhere else would be a reason to be upset.

Your average fan isn’t going to understand a 5.5 WAR player versus 4.5 WAR.

I was in the camp after the World Series last year of just pay Freddie whatever. But as the off-season wore on it was clear that AA would not approach a bidding war with LAD. And I’m ok that he didn’t.

Would anyone consider a Swanson for Gleyber Torres trade? Or Swanson for German Marquez?

I feel that AA is trying to move Ozuna in order to fill some of the existing voids. Padres are rooted in my brain with a Wil Myers plus a SP for Ozuna deal.

Looking back, the entire situation was extremely puzzling. Freeman spoke out to the media multiple times saying he wanted to remain in Atlanta and was waiting for an offer. The Braves made an offer, which by all indications was fair, and then there was nothing after that. It's quite possible that after the World Series win he decided he wanted to be elsewhere.

California (in both its northern and southern incarnations) is a very nice place. So is Toronto. And New York. I like Atlanta, but there are lots of other great places to live and work. Freddie knows that as well as anyone. He's not gonna say how great New York is while living and working in Atlanta.

We as fans of limited means tend to overrate the quality of life stuff as far as the role it plays in free agents' decisions.

There are nice areas to live in or around pretty much any MLB city, provided you have enough money and/or good enough credit. MLB stars aren't living in Detroit proper, East LA, the Bronx, etc. Guys with eight figure annual income are able to insulate themselves from any problems in their cities of residence.

Why is getting Greinke so important. I'd rather take my chances on some combination of Wright, Ynoa, Touki, Davidson, Newcomb and Muller as fourth and fifth starters. Make a trade at deadline if necessary. The starting pitching options will be more plentiful then.

Do we actually agree on something?

Who says we can't have world peace....

You forgot Strider/Elder as options after a couple of months in AAA.

I agree in some ways but when you have money there is just more to do in places like NY/Cali

Also Detroit proper and the Bronx both have some quite nice places to live (both for people with very high income and middle class income). Not that Freddie would be restricting himself to the Bronx if he played for the Yankees.

Fwiw,

I have had two separate atl citizens say there is an off the field issue at play here. No basis for that personally.

I will forever be confused why some fans think its a good use of money to give 10M to a back end starter.

Just sign Joc/Soler and keep some money in reserve for the deadline.

Braves WILL make the playoffs this year. We have until the deadline to have the best team possible come October 1st.

Fried, Morton, and Anderson are our top 3 so Greinke would be the #4. I just don’t see us letting 2 guys already on the roster take the last 2 spots.

Ynoa was basically a good 4 before he went all stupid. I feel pretty good about him occupying one of those spots. Then you have like 6-7 guys on the depth chart to figure out the fifth spot.

A lot of it is a means to defend the WS title. I was originally all for Greinke but now that FF is no longer in play it should be easier to get a more relevant SP who can step up to 2/3 in the event of injury to Morton or Anderson. Ace is out of the picture. I do think AA should take the next few weeks to evaluate the listed above and settle on 2 or 3 for depth at No. 5. Rest can be trade chips.
