Official 2022 Offseason Moves Thread

I dunno..:Hard to turn your back to a region of America that idolizes you…easier for some I guess. I’ll never fault the man for chasing his worth but I think he didn’t want to be here and handled it poorly.

Looking back, the entire situation was extremely puzzling. Freeman spoke out to the media multiple times saying he wanted to remain in Atlanta and was waiting for an offer. The Braves made an offer, which by all indications was fair, and then there was nothing after that. It's quite possible that after the World Series win he decided he wanted to be elsewhere.

Yeah Freddie has soured me on him with going the route he has. I thought he would of been the first person to sign but here we are and he’s still going LeBron James on us. Wonder if he’ll announce it on live tv? He didn’t wanna come back here. AA gave him the chance and he didn’t take it. Anxious to see what he ends up getting.

My one concern now with Freeman, since there appear to be so few suitors left, is that he will end up signing a contract for a price/years we could have all lived with.

No need to be concerned. We have our 1B. He has offers on the table and he's just sitting on them. What would be concerning is if we continued to wait on him and then someone else traded for Olson.

I dont recall ANY player ever saying "I dont want to play here anymore." There have been a few who demanded to be traded but none were ever willing to negate a contract.
First basemen have always been the easiest to replace.
I believe this is an Atlanta Braves site. Not a Freddie Freeman site.
Most posters here see/have seen the need to make pertinent additions since WS Day. No additions come without cost. Cost is not always defined as money.
Braves will never be capable of LAD, NYY, NYM budgets.

We have the worst tv contract in baseball. It’s up in a couple of years so when that’s up we should see an even bigger bump.

Looks like Shultz destroyed LM for the move in the Athletic.

not sure why the athletic hired Schultz and O’Brien.

when they were with the ajc nobody looked at them for their content.

maybe it was the name recognition because I would never pay for their content.

I agree completely. When I heard the news yesterday, I had 30 seconds of shock, but then a day of awe. We now have the better 1B for the next 2 years (watch the data over the next 2 years), for 1/2 the price. He is going to hit 900+ OPS with 40 HRs. He is a local kid (from my HS). He is a great guy. ..... and maybe we sign someone else with the $$$ we saved, how about Kris Bryant to play OF / backup 3B.

I honestly didn't know they moved.

I agree no one read it when it was free.... I certainly didn't. DOB did have some contacts inside the org way back, but those days are long gone.

I think AA will pull the trigger this week on an OF bat. I hope he moves on Greinke pretty quick bc we need another starter.

Most reasonable fans are thrilled we were able to replace Freeman with Olsen. There was just too much sentimental value towards Freeman, but not enough from him I guess.

I’m not hating on him at all for taking the best deal possible.

I guess Chipper and to an extent Smoltz spoiled us with their willingness to take less and not wait until free agency to do it.

just the nature of the business. Those same fans are gonna be very upset when we don’t back up the truck for Dansby either.

thankful we have a GM that understands the team’s needs are priority. I have no doubts if it was a few million AA would have done it. But Fred dragging this out and then using us to get LAD or whoever to up their price, I have no issue with AA pulling the trigger now before the market for Olsen heated up and then we didn’t sign Freddie.

Freeman isn't a Brave because ultimately being a Brave wasn't that big of a deal to him. If it was he would have taken slightly less and still had generational wealth for his whole family.

I don't buy the argument that Freddie has lost his leverage and likely won't get the sixth year. With Boston now reportedly getting involved, I think it shows that at least a couple teams felt like he would re-sign with us. Now there will be others who think they've got a realistic shot and his agent can use that.

It’s simple. Freddie wants every penny and as many years as he can get. His agent probably thought he could hold the Braves ransom, because of how popular Freddie has become…he gambled and lost. AA probably felt there was at least a decent chance that he could be stuck with no one. He pulled the trigger, so he could stay in control of the situation. He seemed about as upset as I’ve seen a GM. This was obviously not the outcome he had hoped for. If Freddie wanted to be a Brave…he absolutely would be. Freddie wants to biggest payday possible and that’s cool…he has earned what ever he wants.

I agree. I don't think the Braves move on to Olson without the feeling that Freddie would get 6 years.

It is interesting that teams like BOS and TOR are coming out now with interest.

Perhaps they all felt LAD ATL and NYY would be the highest bidders for him. But I’m curious how aggressive the newer teams in the hunt will be. LAD might still overpay but perhaps not as much as they would have if we were getting closer to their offer.

I’m also surprised TOR is willing to throw this money for Freddie. They’re in their current window of contention right now. Maybe they feel Freddie is about as good of a player they can afford and won’t be able to keep Vlad in a few years.
