To be clear…you are now taking the position that impact SPs are given up for payroll relief at the deadline?
An impact bat (SOLER) was ! and he hit a MONSTER BOMB that has not verifiably landed yet. lol

How many wins would this upgrade provide the Braves over their readily available options and do you think that matters in whether they make the playoffs or not considering its almost a certainty they would be in the mix on one of the best starters at the deadline with the saved cash?
Regardless of what our roster looked like, when has AA not gone into a season with a considerable amount of money to spend for in-season additions? We literally talk about it everywhere. Greinke won't affect whether or not AA has enough cash for a major mid-season addition.
Not to mention, the first half of the season is just as important as the 2nd half. If we are required to trade for a starter at the deadline, there are 15-20 starts between the start of the season and that time. Getting sub par production from these prospects during that time could quite literally be the difference in making the playoffs and not, in a division that will likely be pretty tough.

THe difference between a guy like Grienke and what we have would probably be at most 2 wins.
I think the team is good enough to plan for postseason series.
Those numbers are made up, but either way, 2 wins is likely to be pretty important in a tough division.

If Grienke was worth more than that then he would be getting paid 20M a year.
Do you mean 2 wins as in WAR or 2 actual wins on the season? Because that isn't the same. And a full 2 wins more is pretty substantial. For reference, in 2021 that was the difference between Drew Smyly and Ian Anderson.
Depending on how the Braves track buy outs, the current payroll is about $142M. I have no idea how they will project revenue in 2022 and beyond, but I would not be surprised at any 2022 payroll value under $180M. That leaves around $35M-$40 to spend with a hole in LF, the rotation, and a bench bat.
They could do Greinke ($10M), Conforto ($20M) and Joc ($10M) I think. That would be a pretty stout roster.

Ahh, yes, the stars and scrubs approach to roster building. Already tried and failed by several teams.
Sorry, I prefer the no scrubs approach to roster building, and the low volatility it provides. You may want to look it up. FG did a nice analysis.

I think this holds value but do you think the the difference in Grienke and the availalbe options is substantial? Is there value to the organization long term to give these guys a chance? How does that weigh into the decision?
I would probably pass on Conforto honestly unless it's a 1 year deal or a 2 year deal at a substantially lower AAV. 1/20 would be ok considering the risk. Rather have Soler though.
