Official 2022 Offseason Moves Thread

Like I say maybe the Guardians want some fans to the park and they are willing to do a trade. They are dumb enough they took Pablo Sandoval for Rosario.

One final FF take. l have a notion that Freddie never intended to return after hitting free agency. I knew we were in trouble when Freddie couldn't get in the right mindset about his kids and being away from them. Before you push back my Dad was a long-haul trucker and was gone a week at a time. So I would say to Freddie suck it up buttercup you have a job to do. Olson is a great player but I would rather have Freeman. The part that bites is we miss seeing once again we as fans miss out on a Brave chasing 500 HR/3000 hits. We missed Maddux and Glavine's 300 wins and Chipper's legs and knees cost him 500/3000. All is left is for Freddie to go into the Hall as a Dodger.

There's no way Freeman plays 12 years in Atlanta, including winning his MVP award here and the first WS in 25 years, and undoes that in 6 years in LA. He's have to basically win the MVP multiple times to have a shot. This isn't Maddux who pitched only 1 more season in Atlanta vs. Chicago. Freeman will have at a minimum twice the number of Games for Atlanta than LA. I would be willing to bet on that given Freeman's relative struggle with nagging injuries.

Few NL teams have filled the DH slots. Is it possible that both Ozuna and Duvall are up to be traded?
Like Scheff, I see Soler as strictly DH.
Acuna is, according to AA willing/goint to play some CF this year.

Because NL GMs have watched for years knowing this was coming - and they don't want a bat-only player clogging up the roster. You can plug the worst offensive player on your team in at DH, and it's STILL going to be an offensive upgrade in this league. Talking up Fried's hitting abilities is fun, but at the end of the day even Heredia's a better player.

There are truthfully very few players that are so much better offensively when all they do is get 4 PAs in a night that they're actually worth the flexibility they'd take away. Guys like Ozuna/Soler/etc. are slightly different because they can at least fake it defensively if the ball is only hit their way 4-5 times a game. As several others have mentioned numerous times, the Braves got incredibly lucky with Duvall in CF down the stretch and during the playoffs. His splits against RHPs are bad enough that the >100 point OPS advantage he enjoys over Heredia against them will eventually disappear if you run Duvall out there in CF for 6 months.

If Fred manages to get in I would hate him if he went neutral cap/no logo.

would never forgive him if he chose Dodger cap.

Ozunas latest domestic violence is his second go round. Do you want to wait for the third? If you are sitting down in Mississippi you wont hear the crowd reaction when he comes up to bat or drops a fly ball. PR is just as big in MLB as it is in any other business.

So you think other teams missed the ozuna deal? What makes you think we can get anything for him? Our best bet is to get that 2.2 fWAR

They don't let players choose. Players can make suggestions. Greg asked for no cap because he didn't want to sleight Atlanta, Chicago and he felt a kinship with San Diego and LA.

rule change came after Greg I believe.

Players can have a preference but writers ultimately decide which hat.

nowadays with players commonly playing for 3-4 teams if not more before they retire it makes sense.

Ive offered several returns that are possible for Ozuna. All I know for sure is that we have 6 current and 7 OFers if Soler is brought in. Some bodies have to go. FWIW Why does Dave Roberts have no problem stating he isnt expecting to have Bauer back?

If we sign Soler and we have Rosario, Ozuna and Acuña for the next few years. What’s going to happen with Drew Waters? I think he is a trade candidate.

Anyone trying to platoon Soler should never be allowed to make any decision regarding any baseball team at any level ever.

Having said that, I don't see how he fits on the current roster once Acuna is back. This is an odd rumor that seems like it has to be linked to another move that clears a DH/OF from the roster. Dumping Ozuna makes the most sense, but I'm not sure how that could happen. Why would any team want Ozuna when Soler and Castellanos are available?

There's always the Colorado Rockies!

Traderumors just post this:

The Guardians have a huge need in the outfield and a massive stockpile of high-end middle infield talent on the cusp of MLB readiness, which has prompted a good bit of speculation about them trading for some outfield help.

When are people going to realize Waters is not a real prospect anymore?

I'd say that's a little harsh. He had a really solid age 20 season in AA. He definitely hasn't been the same since missing the 2020 season. He's not a surefire starter, he's not a 'top' prospect, and he doesn't have any trade value. But he's definitely still a real prospect who could turn into a useful piece.
