Definitely the best of the remaining options. Pineda went for around $5.5m, if we could get him around there, i'd be all over it.

If he is right he could be. At this point, there really isn't a high impact arm we can get on the FA side, and we just gave up a haul for Olson. An Archer move with Soroka due back at the end of the season would make some sense.

Plus all the option buyouts we paid this year for guys like Joc and Duvall.

Much of that will be washed out by arbitration raises, but still should leave a good wad of cash to add a piece or two. Hopefully payroll continues to grow.
 
Obviously he played a big part in this disaster, but I can't help but feel bad for Freeman on this. He clearly wanted Atlanta and he also got a worse deal than the Atlanta offer. Terrible mismanagement on his side

Absolutely absurd. We could have freeman on a five year deal and all of those prospects back.

Single handedly may have chopped a year off of the competitive window.

I’ll allow myself to feel sorry for him when he stops publicly blaming the Braves for… check notes… offering him more money.

I don’t feel sorry for him at all. This is all on him and his agent. Them giving AA a 1 hour ultimatum basically did it in so AA traded for Olson. Like I’ve said, if Freddie really wanted to resign he was given the opportunity. This is 100% on him.

The nightingale article was a tough read. Freeman was apparently stunned when Olson news broke.

I am wondering if he even knew about the ultimatum or not. If he did, shouldn't have been stunned. I just think he got really bad advice and cost him.

And Freeman is a legit great dude who I feel bad for not only not getting the deal with the braves, but also getting a worse contract, while the braves had to pay dearly for his replacement.

No real winners here except the dodgers and olson

Dodger fans are amusing saying FF came back home and took less overall bc he didn’t wanna be in Atl anymore. He blew it and everybody knows it. Just listen to Chippers interview. AA gave FF that offer before the all star break last season and Chipper warned him about playing chicken with AA. He told him he was playing a dangerous game and he sees where it got him. It sucks losing the prospects but we are in a better place long term right now. So I guess we should be thanking Freddie

Where’d you see that? If that’s true then we are a 200 million dollar payroll club now. You add Correa to this team and sky’s the limit. Like Cheff said earlier, if Correa opts out he’ll be AA’s top target next offseason.

Are we in a better place long term?

If you gave Freeman a 5 year deal and still had those prospects to play in Atlanta or to be used on another player?

I think we are in a slightly worse off spot personally.

I miss Freeman already.

That interview with Chipper is one of the most interesting I've heard. Chipper was extremely candid and just showed a great understanding of the whole situation.

I think players and agents and other GMs who deal with AA in the future will take note of what happened. And it will pay off in a big way that AA has established what kind of negotiator he is. To a certain extent he already had a strong reputation and this will just add to it.

Olson is the better defender and will be younger through our premium years with Acuna and Albies. We would have probably kept the prospects and who knows if they would have panned out or not. I’m glad we got Olson and locked him up. I don’t miss Freeman at all after the mess he made.
