Official 2022 Offseason Moves Thread

Yeah I love Correa but Turner does so many things well and him and Acuna at 1 and 2 with their speed and base running would be crazy. Saying that I don’t see LA letting him leave. Correa would the only guy I could see them letting him go for.

athletic podcast starkville has an extended interview with AA on the moves.

Wanted Rosario b/c he's LH. Knows he has low obp.

So he took a lesser hitter vs RHP because he stands on a specific side of the plate. Outstanding.

Oh well, if Rosario over Pham or Conforto is the worst move of the off season, I really don't have much to complain about.

I don't think Conforto was ever an option due to the loss of a draft pick it would take to sign him. With our farm we can't afford to give away picks.

As for Pham, Rosario is 3.5 years younger than Pham and was a little better than Pham against right handers last year (this with Rosario likely battling a nagging injury in the first half). Pham also looks to be in pretty serious decline which is to be expected considering his age.

So I don't think it's super clear cut what the best call was.

I don't get this thought process from AA but I do like ROsario and think if he stays away from injuries he will be very productive.

I wonder if Pham has a reputation of clubhouse troubles preceding him which may have swung AA away from bringing him in.

He was kind of seen as a malcontent when he was in St Louis, and he seems to get moved a lot.

Not sure how many "clubhouse troubles" have followed him, but think about this from Alex' perspective...

You've already got a wife-beater in the clubhouse, do you really want to bring in a guy who needed 200 stitches to close a stab wound he got at a strip club for Acuna and Albies to hang around with?

But this goes to Encheffs point.

Wait until the pieces are off the board.

I'd give up a pick for COnforto if the contract is cheap.

I prefer 6m guaranteed for Joc vs 18m guaranteed for Rosario, but the difference is immaterial at this payroll level.

Soler is the best obtainable player if you rule out Pham or Conforto for different reasons. But I don’t love the contract from the Braves perspective (I think it’s great for Miami).

Rosario isn’t a perfect fit, but he’s a good player and the commitment is limited. If he’s an average player, we will be happy to have him.

He also kept bringing up his arm. I wonder if a big part was they wanted Rosario b/c he can play RF if Ronnie has to DH or play CF.

Soler obviously played RF, but some think his defense is awful.

I get the musical chairs plan for roster building you are advocating. I just don't think you can do that with as many holes as the Braves had to fill. You need some cost certainty somewhere. You have to make some moves. And it's tough to sit there not knowing what others can do. The Dodgers and Yankees and others can sign Rizzo and FF if they wanted to.

Next year could get interesting for your strategy though. You have Morton and/or Morton's spot. You have Dansby. You have two high cost pen options. IF everyone is healthy and productive you do not have a lot of moving parts on the roster. You could hold onto 35 million and see what SS takes your 2-3 year deal when the chairs fill up.

Don't we have a reasonable option on MOrton for 23?
