Official 2023 Playoff Thread

Yeah that’s really weird. I figured Wright would have been good for a bullpen game and Chavez is usually money.

I am really trying to figure the Hernandez thing out.. His Savant page, SSS, doesn't show anything really. He has an ok fastball and a crappy slider that he doesn't really throw in the zone. Guys can just sit anything above the belt swing.. below, lay off.. maybe they have him locating 98 bottom of zone and that way his crappy slider in the dirt actually works.

Let's just hope we don't have to relive another "Lee makes his first career opener start in a playoff game" moronic moment.

Hernandez's k9 this season...
AAA: 18.56
Braves: 14.73

Walk rate is horrible, but he clearly has swing and miss

His fastball is more than okay… but it’s still a weird decision. I hate that Tonkin is on the roster more

Sounds like Grissom and AJSS made the roster too according to Bowman. Seems like an intentional decision to choose high velocity pitchers over finesse. Pretty high risk/high reward decision IMO. Can’t fault AJSS over Wright but definitely don’t get Hernandez over Chavez unless they just don’t think Jesse is sharp right now.

Grissom is probably going to lace a double down the right field to win the game in the 10th or 11th tonight. Speaking of which, is Manfred Ball in effect for extras in the postseason?
