Official 2024 Off-Season Thread!

Bader is a good defensive CF, and if you’re looking to catch 3-4 win lighting in a bottle for cheap he’s the guy to take a shot on.

The Braves obviously need a much cheaper CF option for the bench.

I know you have probably posted it in here previously but I can’t find it. Who is on your short list for the 4OF/bench piece. Thanks

I want Grichuk, but at this point any of the guys like Duvall, Grichuk or Taylor is fine. This guy isn’t going to play much, he isn’t going to even platoon on a regular basis, and Snit has shown he won’t use a bench player to rest regulars, so this 4th OFer just needs to be cheap, CF capable, and not below replacement level if he has to play for 2 weeks.

Yea, Grichuk is who I’m hoping for but I’d be happy with Duvall.

Pillar is fine too. Snit can’t properly leverage a bench outside of a catching duo, so it doesn’t make a ton of sense to invest cash into one.

While true, I thought Snit did an admirable job managing playing time when Duvall was around. Specifically in 2021, he managed a way to get all 4 guys at bat. Not a high bar to clear, but still.

I guess that's an indication of why we didn't pursue him. I thought he would have been a great fit, but $10.5 MM is--as you say--a lot of money.

I mentioned it the Sale thread, but I am guessing it will be a AJ Pollock type rather than a borderline starting caliber OFer who will command at least 5-10 million. Maybe a re-union with Pillar could be in order if he accepts less than 3 million

Harrison Bader for $10.5M to the Mets? Ye cats

OPS+ of 85 in '22 and 69 in '23. How 'bout them Mets

Real world cost from the Mets is close to 20 million for Bader due to tax on that contract. At this point they are paying 2 dollars for every 1 dollar in additional payroll they add.

Didn’t cohen say they weren’t going to try and compete again right away? Why sign the guys they’ve signed then? Like I said before, they’re trying to compete again but with worse players than last year.

Guillorme was terrible last year, but he can make contact, draw some walks and play all the difficult infield positions acceptably well. Reasonable enough signing for a role that's not going to see too much playing time.

Guillorme is more of a Fletcher replacement than a 4th OFer. It would be odd to spend another $1M on a backup IF while leaving the backup OF situation in such poor shape, so something else must be coming.
