Official 2024 Off-Season Thread!

It's really pretty amazing how often he comes up with stupid **** to move him.

I doubt the Braves are even considering it.

I actually would like to move Ozuna, if it meant being able to bring in an impact pitcher with the money saved. I just don't think Ozuna will come close to repeating last season. Let TDA and Murphy rotate at DH.

But it's not going to happen, so it's a pointless to argue about.

That impact pitcher was Nola and he went back to Philly. Braves had the cash to add someone and choose to spend it all on bad contracts for 2024 to get cheap controllable players.

Obviously I don't know what the books look like, but I would figure moving Ozuna would open up enough to bring in Stroman for 3/55 (or thereabouts).

Here's a guy making trade proposals that are perfectly reasonable: https://www.msn.com/en-us/sports/ml...n&cvid=75e858e5c1c149b688aa0266cc3160c9&ei=22

The O's have a ton of OF/2B prospects and very little pitching to trade, while the Braves have Grissom for 2B and some nice MLB-ready arms. His proposals from the Os and Braves:

Heston Kjerstad, Joey Ortiz, Cade Povich, and Justin Armbruster

AJ Smith-Shawver, Spencer Schwellenbach, Vaughn Grissom, and Diego Benitez

The filler players don't really matter, but Kjerstad/Ortiz vs AJSS/Grissom seem like reasonably painful packages for Cease. I think I'd rather see AA just pony up the cash for Stroman if that's the true cost of Cease, who I'm not as high on as others due to the decline showing in most of his metrics.

Admittedly I don't know anything about the last three Orioles prospects you listed, but Kjerstad is going to be a freaking star. If I'm the White Sox I take the O's offer over the Braves' simply because of HK's upside as a hitter.

AA had a great interview in the Athletic today: https://theathletic.com/5152620/202...medium=social&utm_campaign=mlbtw&source=mlbtw.

Some interesting tidbits:

Some starting pitchers have changed teams this offseason. Dylan Cease hasn’t been traded, yet. How hard have you pursued a starter and what’s the consideration in trading a core player to land one in trade?

We pursued Aaron Nola (who re-signed with the Phillies). Beyond that, we’ve engaged clubs and inquired on trades. The starters who have been moved, and one specifically, we didn’t need to trade core players off our roster. It would’ve been a prospect-based deal and we had the prospects to do it and we elected not to. Obviously, we’ll find out three, four, five years from now if that was the right call. It’s similar to when guys like Spencer Strider and Michael Harris were prospects and we elected to hold those guys as well, and we’re glad that we did. It’s tough to judge because you’re trying to project out what guys will be. So far, I’ve elected to say no.

Should we expect a major trade between now and spring training?

I have no idea. We’re sitting here in the middle of December. It’s still pretty active. There’s still a lot of conversations. There’s also dominoes that get impacted — somebody gets signed and another player shakes loose in a trade. We still have at least another six weeks, and even then, you’re two weeks from reporting. So there’s still time.

Pretty obvious who he is talking about since only 1 star pitcher has been traded.

I mean... pretty much everyone here would be on board moving Ozuna if they could get some value and most of the salary paid... that's not really the argument... dude is always advocating for someone obviously worse

This is it in a nutshell. And here's an even longer winded explanation of the same thing: https://blogs.fangraphs.com/what-exactly-are-the-braves-up-to/

I think AA is the best GM in the sport, and hiring him was the best thing that has happened to the Braves this century. If I'm a team like the Red Sox I would offer him $10M a year to pry him out of Atlanta.

I just hope 1-2 of Elder, Ynoa, Anderson, AJSS, Waldrep, Vines, Dodd gets to a point where they can give us a few good innings in the playoffs if needed or that Fried, Strider, and Morton all miraculously manage to stay healthy. If we're just not going to trade any significant prospects or overpay a middle of the rotation starter, let's get one more backup OF who can be a better bench piece than Wall and go to battle with what we have.

Yamamoto will be with Ohtani at the Rams game tonight.

It's obvious he will be a Dodger.

I just wish it'd happen soon so the rest of the offseason can get going.

AA knows what to say. Hes not gonna say, yeah we are gonna make a big trade for a starter bc he doesnt know for sure if he can or not. Once Yamamoto signs i think the SP market will go fast.

that rumor has been refuted. Just another Twitter “journalist” who can’t do their job.

Maybe I'm in the minority then that never really thinks about trading Ozuna.

Seems like an appropriately priced asset heading into a contract year with probably very little trade value. Coming off his best year.

Nothing really out there to replace him, wouldn't save much money if you did, and not likely to get much of return. Who trades difference making mlb litching for a DH?

, who reported contract will be for more than $300M.
