Official 2024 Off-Season Thread!

I've been a broken record on this (and I honestly don't know if it will make much difference in how his career unfolds), but, as you say, he's only been pitching since his senior year in high school and he graduated in 2021 and I thought he shouldn't have been rushed the way he was. He showed signs of great potential, but he also showed that he's far from a finished product. I'm old school and realize things have changed, but learning as opposed to executing at the major league level is not a surefire recipe for success. Waldrep is a different case because he has pitched three years in college and the learning curve won't be as steep.

Without a doubt the Braves advance their prospects to provide them with challenges and to cover needs of the big club. We've seen plenty of prospects make the majors without being a finished product. Most, like AJSS, get a taste and then head back down. AJSS needs to log some innings before he can really be considered a rotation candidate. He's never thrown more than 70IP. Even if you gave him a light load you'd be asking him to pitch twice as many innings as he ever has in the past. That said, there are some, like Harris who had less than 200 PA above A+, that make it to Atlanta and never leave. The Braves have Kuehler, Murphy, Ritchie and Schwellenback at A and A+. I look for all 4 to be on the express to AAA this year.

Not really following a lot this off season. But isn’t Kershaw still unsigned. Is he done. I can’t see him anywhere but LA. Surprised he isn’t locked up yet.

Also have any other teams in the NL east done anything to improve. Have the Faillies signed anyone yet. I know the Mutts are shedding payroll and the fish and gnats are still not ready yet. I feel like the Braves are the only team thus far to do anything at all.

Phillies signed Nola and supposedly they had a 300+ million offer for Yamamoto. So they clearly have money to spend. Hate to say it but Hader would be perfect for them. Mets are in transition right now.

So basically they haven’t improved on what they had last year yet.

Is Hader going to be worth his deal I wonder? He basically has said he is not going to do more than 3 out saves anymore.

Luplow signed a minor league deal with Braves.

Luplow and Wall aren't terrible OF backups. Both provide above average defense with at least the potential of some offense. I guess Leury Garcia counts as a possible band aid as well, in a higher floor, lower ceiling kind of way.

I know the depth isn’t there anymore, but the Braves have a few young prospects with legitimate hype and potential. AJ Smith-Shawver, Hurston Waldrep, Jose Perdomo, Ignacio Alvarez, Owen Murphy, JR Richie and Spencer Schwellenbach, among others.

Didn't Ritchie have TJS mid-2023 season? I'm curious if Blake Burkholder will be ready out of the gate in 2024.

No Ozzie, that’s crazy. He’s easily top 10. He’s not elite, but certainly top 10.

He's certainly borderline elite with 33 bombs last year, .850 OPS, 16% Ks, a .233 ISO and wRC+ of 124. Even if he was a little down with the glove. I haven't even seen three of those jokers play.

These lists are always stupid. I don't know why I read them. They just piss me off. They'll probably leave Harris off too.

Zack Gelof had a pretty impressive season for someone I had never heard of until 20 minutes ago. Still seems weird to rank him over Albies.
