Bowman says Braves have told Kelenic that he'll platoon with Duvall. Don't want to overreact, but them changing the plan paired with a dreadful spring for Kelenic seems concerning.

Duvall doesn't even have pronounced splits as well - I think Braves are concerned. At the very best maybe they think the bat positioning change will take a bunch of time to click.

On the other hand, this is less inspiring.

He’ll still get 70% of the playing time and it’s best to set him up for success. If he performs, we’ll see him get more opportunities against LHP (and god knows Snit will forget he has the option to pinch hit for him when a LHP comes out of the bullpen).

I see nothing wrong with putting trying to put Kelenic in the best position to succeed especially while working on mechanical adjustments.

As for Duvall it's likely the Braves made a standing offer to Duvall long ago and he finally decided to accept it after exploring his other options.

If they're calling it a strict platoon, I'll be interested to see if Snit can stick to it. We know how he gets with his favorites like Duvall. If Kelenic starts slow, I'd imagine we'll see Duvall start getting some starts against righties.

I wonder if Acuña’s knee also had something to do with the Duvy signing.

Adding Duvall objectively makes the team better. If it hurts Kelenic’s feelings then he’ll have every opportunity to prove he deserves to play full time.

You would think in the era of advance analytics overreacting to spring training stats would be a thing of the past.

Never been a big Duvall fan, but this signing is a good move. Not an on-base machine, but can play all three OF positions for an extended period if required. Good power bat. We'll know on Kelenic soon enough, but his spring has been dreadful. Hopefully that doesn't mean that much, but Duvall is a good back-up plan and should be a good platoon partner in LF at this price.

It took 100 Abs or so for the set up changes Seitzer made to really make sense for Ronnie and Harris. I wouldn't worry yet.

The Braves informed Jarred Kelenic that he will platoon with the newly signed Adam Duvall.
Kelenic was supposed to get the chance to be an everyday player this year, but he’s 3-for-34 so far this spring and Duvall’s price tag had fallen far enough to make the Braves believe it was worth bringing him in. It seems like the right call. Kelenic has been particularly bad against lefties as a major leaguer, hitting .189/.255/.311 in 270 plate appearances. He’ll still surely get to play versus righties initially, but he does have an option left and the Braves now have a viable alternative if he struggles.

Duvall can teach JK some things about growing up too - if that’s even an issue …. I love this signing. Every time AD steps into the box there’s a decent chance he’s gonna tattoo one.

Best team in baseball just got better.

Platooning Kelenic based on 34 PAs in ST is moronic. If he was worth being the foundation of the entire offseason he is worth 200 consistent PAs to start the season.

Duvall is a great fit for this team. But not as a strict platoon for JK. He should play in RF so acuna DH and ozuna plays first. He should play in RF and let acuna have night off. Play center to let MH2 off. Platoon some with JK of course. There should be -400 PA for him if a blind monkey was managing.

Well, then what are the Braves gonna do with him?

Duvall is a reasonable addition to the bench. However, Grichuk would have been better, and Grichuk was cheaper.

So why wait to platoon Kelenic? What did the Braves learn in the last week about Kelenic that they didn't already know back when they could have signed the superior player in Grichuk for less than they paid Duvall? Did 3 dozen ST PAs change their opinion on Kelenic? If so, it was very stupid to spend so many resources acquiring him if their mind was changed based on 30 ST PAs.

This just doesn't make sense, and smells like someone screwed up during the decision making process.

The difference in Duvall and Grichuk is minimal, and the Braves already have familiarity with Duvall.

If it doesn’t make sense to platoon Kelenic based on 30 ST at bats, then that’s probably not the reason Duvall was signed.

You yourself have been calling for RH OF depth. Seems more likely the Braves liked Duvall at this price point and decided it was worth platooning Kelenic so they could give enough at bats to Duvall to justify him signing here.
