Official 2024 Off-Season Thread!

Nicky Lopez is a no brainer. He should be used to spot every infielder a day off but we know Snit is going to play Riley, Olson, and Ozzie 162 unless they get injured.

$4M is nothing to make sure we have that option, especially with Ozzie being injury-prone. You could say Grissom, but I expect he'll need to be used in a trade for a starting pitching or real LF upgrade or even a high-leverage bullpen piece that we may not be thinking of.

Is it one poster or “people”?

I know you enjoy soap boxing everyone and imma let you finnish but let’s not over dramatize it

Well, I like to generalize to avoid offending specific people. I'd rather anger 20 people a little than 1 person a lot. It's called people skills, duh.

Especially since there really aren't any of those glove only, league minimum guys in the minors that you kinda see used in this spot

He’s also just an elite elite defensive player, decent speed, and has a better bat than a guy like Culberson.

For what it’s worth Joel Reuter (Bleacher Report) wrote an article entitled

“Predicting 1 Trade For Every MLB team during the 2023-2024 Offseason”

Trade Proposal: Mitch Keller acquired from the Pittsburgh Pirates for AJSS, Allan Winans, and Braden Shewmake

Don’t shoot the messenger

If this trade would have been proposed in June of last season, it would be a reasonable exchange. Unfortunately, Keller had to pitch another half-season. I watched a couple games he pitched online early in the season and he looked like he had taken the next step. But then the wheels fell off.

I doubt the Braves make this deal given their lack of pitching depth. I have no idea if Smith-Shawver is ready, but his ceiling is probably higher than Keller's if he continues on his current arc. Don't know why the Pirates would want Shewmake. I'm neither here nor there on Winans. He's a back-end candidate, but we've got a slew of those.

I'd not only keep Lopez but give him an opportunity to compete for the SS job. Being LH a platoon with Arcia might be a good way to go as well.

I'd love to get a few high leverage arms for the pen to make it a shut down pen.

Iglesias
Kimbrel
Chapman
Minter
Johnson
Matzek
Chavez

That would be expensive, but worth it. Also, having the additional lefty with velocity would help neutralize Schwarber and Harper combo in Philly

Sonny Gray says his next contract isnt about money, its about being somewhere he is wanted, and a team can show him how much they want him by paying him more than anyone else. Always love the BS from the players in free agency.

Completely agree

Gray and Stroman are my top targets in FA. I feel like there is a decent chance both could be had for 3 years with a team option. I also like Montgomery a lot, but I feel like someone will overpay for him and give him 5 years and 25+ million per year. Obviously Aaron Nola is gonna get 150 million too.

Anytime there is a large group of very similar FAs, one of them seems to ask for too much money and ends up taking a 1 year pillow deal. It's usually a guy who rejected a QO and had his value hurt as a result.

Hopefully AA can get that guy.

Obviously the big thing here would be the money, but I hope AA is considering Yamamoto. His Japan stats compare very favorably to Darvish and Senga and he's only 25 years old.
