Official 2024 Off-Season Thread!

I’m a little surprised we haven’t heard anything about the Morton and Rosario options yet. Makes me think they are working out new deals with them.

I was just thinking the same. Most other teams have announced their decisions by now.

Perhaps these decisions will be influenced by trade discussions involving a SP or LF, and AA is waiting to see if he can finalize that trade before cutting either player loose.

Per Heyman, the Braves will not exercise the option on Rosario

I think he’s trying to find an upgrade before he has to make the decision. AA said he almost had a trade done for a legit middle of the order hitter at the deadline. I wonder if that’s been revisited. If it is I hope it’s Luis Robert.

I'm too lazy to look it up. Is there a deadline by which the Braves have to exercise the options?

That would be one hell of a 1-2 for them. Maybe we should go after Nola
I want nothing to do with Snell for the price. He’s obviously better than Nola, but that walk-rate is putrid. He won’t be worth the money… but that’s me. The Phillies will spend just to spend.

I’d love Nola, but I’m not sure he’s worth a five-plus-year deal for $150M+.

MLBTR article mentions Verdugo as a potential trade target. He’s not someone I’ve thought of, but a league average bat with positive cOF defense who should probably have his PAs limited against LHP shouldn’t be too expensive to acquire.

Not that big of a surprise. I thought I read something somewhere surmising how the Red Sox were going to approach the Verdugo situation. I don't recall the Braves being mentioned as possible suitors, but he might make sense. Like you said, limit his ABs against LHP and it's an improvement. A lot depends on acquisition costs. He's arbitration-eligible and made about $6.3 MM in 2023.

Yeah i like Snell, when he's on, he's basically unhittable. But that walk rate and contract, yikes. I wouldnt give Nola what he wants either, curious where he goes if Philly is content letting him go.
