Official 2024 Off-Season Thread!

League sources think Corbin Burnes is available. After Council left they think Milwaukee might tear it down and rebuild.

He's projected for 15.1 mil in last year of arby

The only way AA makes a trade for one-year contract is if he commits to an extension. Both Burnes and Glasnow (if he's available, of course) would be perfect but the prices are likely absurd.

Can we not have one decent ****ing beat writer?

I struggle to come up with a sarcastic worst take. How about "Should Max Fried amputate his foot". Dude hit about .330 after May. He is my pick for breakout player next year. I dont think we have seen the best of his bat or defense. Never mind the fact he actually wants to be here. So if he does reach a new level and play through his contract he might re-sign. With his contract he is one of the most valuable players in the game and if we traded a player who signed a deal like that with us why would other players want to sign long term contracts with us. Beyond that we only really have Olson as a good LH bat in the lineup. I think even a 30/30 season could happen in the future by him if he wants to steal bases more often.

I couldn’t even imagine adding Burnes to this rotation. An extension would need to be talked about first bc him and Fried will both be FA after next season and Morton will probably retire so we couldn’t go into next offseason with just 2 SP bc more than likely AJSS would be part of the package.

Trading premium talent for 1 year of Burnes just doesn’t feel like a move AA makes because extending him into his mid/late 30s isn’t what AA has ever done for a pitcher. The strider extension only covers his 20s, for example.

Agreed that his been his pattern since coming up, however, I don't recall a situation quite like the one we find ourselves in now.....Fried was injured last season and is a FA after 24, Morton is likely to retire, so we are likely to be looking for at least 2 rotation spots going into 25, if not 3 spots. This is not a team that you want to throw out 3 rookie or super young starters.

Ideally, we get Glasnow or Burnes, extend them, and supplement them with a Seth Lugo type pitcher.

Fried
Glasnow/Burnes
Strider
Morton
Lugo

That would be ideal.

Lugo was a pretty good bullpen arm before they stretched him out to be a starter. He would slot nicely in the bullpen come playoff time.

Now that is something else to consider. I think we need a TOR arm to fortify the rotation but Lugo and his versatility could make alot of sense for us if Elder were moved in a LF or SP deal.
