Official 2024 Off-Season Thread!

The Braves are obviously working with gobs of cash.

I wouldn't mind Stroman, Rodriguez, or trading for one of Glasnow/Cease.

This is very fun.

I'm expecting a trade. AA has a surplus of backend starters, plus still has some of his arms he can deal from: Kuehler, Hack, AJS, Murphy, Ritchie, etc.

Pre-Arb, so likely less than $1 MM (paid $729,400 in 2023). Good power. Lots of Ks. Former first round pick (6th overall) of the Mets in 2018. Was part of a package that went to the Mariners from the Mets in the deal that sent Diaz and Cano to New York.

Kelenic will be a super 2 but that won't come into play until 2025

If Kelenic is good, we're basically set at C, 1B, 2B, SS, 3B, LF, CF, RF for the next 3 years, only needing a DH and SP lol.

Should be noted that Kelenic had a 795 OPS and 118 WRC+ on the road in 2023. Small sample size of course but Seattle has an ass park for hitting and Truist is very good.

That and Seitzer/Chipper working with him, i'll take my chances.

Seitzer and our organization can work magic and I like giving Kelenic a chance here. Riley is an example of one of those guys who could have landed on the trash heap without a good organization like the Braves to develop him. I think Kelenic will surprise us.

I'm ok giving up a big quanitiy package for Cease. Need to keep Waldrep though.

Yeah, if we can get him w/o Waldrep or any of our core players on the ML roster, i'd be okay going all in for Cease. Not sure what that package even looks like, maybe say: Elder, Baldwin, AJSS, and Schellenbach?

I am fully aware of his prospect pedigree. I just don’t think his talent or tools align with where he was ranked. If AA thinks he can squeeze value out of him, great. I was hoping for a better bat in LF. Disappointed that this is what we end up with. But AA is a great GM, he could still have great moves up his sleeve.

How much better? He hit 8% better than Rosario in 2023 (108 wrc+ versus 100 wrc+) and, unlike the latter, is a good defender with room to improve offensively.

I’m all for buying low on someone like Kelenic, even if it cost what is essentially a 2/30 contract to make it happen. Someone like Kepler or Verdugo would have been a safer option, but Kelenic offers a chance at another offensive stud…no idea how likely though.

Cash is supposedly coming from Seattle, and I’m guessing it covers White’s buyout. As long as AA can still afford to plug other holes in the roster this was a reasonable gamble to take on a post-hype prospect. Very excited to see if this kid can turn things around.

After years and years of us having to include prospects to dump salary or else get cash thrown in, it's interesting to see us on the other side.

I think there's a fair chance Gonzales and White are DFAd at some point. No need right now with the 40 man space but neither seems to bring much value.

If Kelenic can make even a little more contact he's going to explode. When he makes contact good things happen, he just doesn't quite make contact enough. Considering his age, there's a good chance he can improve his contact numbers.

How is anyone ok with Kelenic in LF? Dude strikes out a ton and is a light contact guy...

Well, he's young, under control for 5 years and barely cost anything in terms of prospects. We're basically just buying him from the M's for White and Marco. But apparently they sent cash, not reported how much yet. The LF market is pretty trash in free agency. Our lineup is pretty stacked, even if Kelenic stinks, it's a fair gamble. Kelenic did show some improvement last year, and Seitzer is a great hitting coach. So maybe AA sees something in him we can unlock.

Very young and enormous amounts of talent. He was a top 5 prospect in baseball two years ago and has shown some improvement this year.

If things come together he has star potential. As is, he'd probably put up numbers comparable to Eyes last year. So it's a good gamble.
