If AA liked Kelenic that much to make him the focus of the offseason, he wouldn't have still been tossing around the idea of Grissom as a platoon partner unless he's intent on including Grissom in a trade.
JK could be moved for a pitcher we aren’t talking about by in large paying for an asset we didn’t have-but needed to get another deal done

Or the simplest reason of all: he wanted K badly, but didn’t want it to look like he wanted K badly.
And personally, I like the idea of keeping Grissom for a backup who can play all over the place - because I think he can hit the baseball a lot better than most backup players. Is he gonna be Odarp?
No, most probably not. But he is a great insurance piece for 162.
I think AA is done, and should be done- other than moving Stassi along.
Why should he be done? He hasnt acquired a starter. You mean he was ready to spend big on Nola and then just stop wanting a big starter? Doesnt make sense. I’d bet another SP is coming and it should.
I’m not real sure he was really willing to spend all that big on Nola. I don’t really buy that.
And, there’s just not a SP out there that I think he can get without giving up too many of our few resources.
We need one for October for sure (unless Waldrep or AJSS pan out) - but we can do that in August after we see what we got internally. I don’t think trading for Glas is a good idea, and Cease certainly isn’t worth what the Sox are asking. Just my .02-
We are better than last year - by a good bit already - and should coast into the playoffs- so no need to rush and make a big fat mistake and accidentally trade Avery or Glavine for a number three. I say we hold until August.
Go get Blake Snell or Cole, and I’ll change my tune!
Moving Lopez made room for some of the salary obligations taken on to get Kelenic, in the form of another utility player who will likely also play very little.
It seems like Lopez and the roster purge in general were all about making space to buy a useful piece of two by accepting dead weight with them. Either there is another Kelenic type of deal coming, or AA liked Kelenic enough to justify A LOT of wheeling and dealing to make him the focus of the off-season.
All of that could have been done without moving Lopez.

But does it even matter if he acquires a starter or not? This team as currently constructed should steamroll through the regular season again. It's not like acquiring an SP will be the different between making the playoffs or not, the team is already listed as having 90% odds. Could always re-assess the needs at the trade deadline and acquire an SP as needed.

The right play for an SP is for '25, if that's now or next season. Better now when we aren't as desperate.
