Official 2024 Off-Season Thread!

The his contract will not age well at all. The Dodgers are normally smart when it comes to these deals. The Dodgers already sell out every game so it wont help ticket sales. Betts, Ohtani, and Freeman will be a good 1-3 punch for a few years and then its gonna crash.

It’s not my fault you don’t understand basic valuations. Ohtani is easily the best or second best player of all time and like eovaldi im expect Ohtani to be a dominant pitcher again and you’ll pretend you never said the above.

Nah you’re the only one around here who can never admit when he’s wrong… board clown as always

It helps with the cash payroll but it’s a flat $70m luxury tax hit. I’m a little surprised they didn’t do the Phillies thing where they spread the $700m over 15 years or something

Looks like it’s the competitive tax penalty and not luxury tax.

The Dodgers are going to make a lot of this contract back via new revenue streams (which is why this is a $700m contract instead of $500m).

I’d love to know the insurance on this contract because if he blows out his shoulder or something that’s going to be a massive loss.

Ohtani is good but top 2 all time?? Come on now he doesnt have the longevity in the sport yet to make that claim. Guys like Ruth and Williams did it for a long time not just a couple of years. Dude may never pitch again and if he does for how long?? He wont come back throwing 100 like he was bc his arm will fall completely off.

Absolutely agree. Even in the coming season with Betts, Ohtani, and Freeman at the top three, their lineup is not that great. Will Smith is decent. Then strike out machine Muncy and the rest is a collective meh.

I get the longevity argument but when he has played he’s been at worst second best of all time. I’m not sure what other place he could be put.

Actually first you will disappear from embarrassment for about 6 months and then come back and pretend you were never wrong… that’s your typical MO

Hes a great player but there are alot of players better than him that did it for a long period of time.

Come on, he's overhyped and everybody knows it. I am not saying he is not among the elites but he's not God in cleats either. Take the two-way out of the equation; there are better pitchers and more talented players at his positions. He's not the best pitcher in the game. There are better OFers and first basemen in the game than he is. He has a legit claim to be the best DH but he's a hype machine because of the two-way crap.
