Official 2024 Off-Season Thread!

That analogy is terrible 😂😂 and although we remember different...the point stands. There were plenty of posts saying the Braves were fine. AA himself said they were close to a deal but it fell through. The need was there. All that to say...AA knows there is a solid SP needed not just for regular season...but for POSTSEASON. If Elder is starting in the postseason...color me uninspired.

We bombed in the post season because we forgot how to hit.

So to me, the bigger question is how can MLB allow this in the future? For example, what's to stop AA from sending $50M with Olson a few years from now to the Pirates if he ages poorly? That's essentially allowing a team to buy their way out of bad contracts in terms of CBT penalties.

I think first they need to fix the way the Dodgers are getting around massive CBT penalties for the Ohtani contract.

Do they care? The tax is to keep the rich for making the poor look bad. They say it's for competition. If the poor are getting paid by the rich to take on the rich team's mistakes, they may LOVE that. Not sure why the players care unless they don't want to finish the last years of their contract in Pittsburg.

The deferrals will be an interesting issue. It is a way around the tax's intent. It keeps player salaries high, can allow for concentrated teams and keeps making the poor teams look bad. It also gets around the tax's mechanism of paying the poor teams for doing nothing.

I could be a big problem. I don't think revenues are going to go up forever.
