Official Around Baseball 2023 Thread

The Phillies badly need this series. I know it's early and they made an incredible run last year, but they don't look anywhere near as good... and I'm not sure I'd trust them to go like 50-30 again or whatever it was.

The phillies won't win the division.. no way.. Nola/Wheeler/Walker are not the same guys as a few years ago. The lineup won't all be hot at the same time like the playoffs.. so I expect them to finish behind the Mets and Fish and have some tough decisions in the off season.

Walker was never even that good. Last year was his best year and it was just an unsustainable first half. Second half wasn’t good. They do minimal homework and just throw money around. Their GM still stinks.

Brewers signed RHP Julio Teheran to a one-year contract.
Teheran has passed his physical with the Brewers and will officially take the ball on Thursday evening against the Giants. It's a bit unclear how long he'll work into this one since his last start for Triple-A Sacramento was back on May 17. The 32-year-old righty will be making his first appearance in the majors since the 2021 campaign and figures to get an extended opportunity in Milwaukee's injury-depleted starting rotation.

The guy we should have sold off but didn't

The Phillies are in real trouble.

Nola's K/BB is about half what it was last year fed mostly by a big drop in Ks. That drop is fed by a drop in his swinging strike percentage and an increase in contact that's being made off him. Add in the fact that he's about to turn 30 and most of his pitches have lost a full MPH since last year and it's not looking good.

Wheeler is still excellent. Velocity is holding, command is holding, swings and misses are holding.

The Taijuan Walker deal was incredibly dumb. He's never been great. This year his contact is up and his BBs are way up. It's a good bet he's on his way down.

Trea Turner's struggles should terrify Phillies Fans.

They're in trouble.

We need to sweep them and put them into crises mode.

They deserve it. Damn idiots would boo Santa.
And we know this to be true.

They need to split just to hold ground. 3/4 is what i'm hoping for, would be okay with a split, losing the last 3 not ideal.

Screw the split. We want a sweep. Need to pound Bohm low and in. Maybe one in the dick to keep him honest.

I mean, of course i want a sweep to completely bury them but hard to sweep a 4 game series. I do hate how Bohm turns into prime Bonds vs us though.

On the ex-Braves front, Drew Waters made his 2023 big league debut in CF for the Royals last night. Started the season on the DL and had a productive 13-game stint in AAA Omaha. His line last night was pretty much typical Waters. 2/4, 2 K.
