De La Cruz went 0-4 with 2k's, as the Reds go down 10-3 in Baltimore. 3 game losing streak. Maybe they are human after all...

I mean Lindor is still a 4-5 WAR SS. That's absolutely worth 34 million. He might not be worth that in 2-3 years though.

Lindor contributes in a way that’s extremely hard to appreciate when your team sucks, but he’s still a very good player nonetheless.

Mets are 16 GB of the Braves for the division lead, and 8.5 GB of the WC. Obviously, it would be much easier for them to take a WC spot, but they would have to jump the Marlins/Giants/Dodgers, Phillies, Reds, Cubs, Padres, and Pirates to get 1 of the 3 spots. Not likely either IMO.

To get back in the division, they would essentially have to sweep the rest of the season vs the Braves, Marlins, and Phillies. The Phillies are not too ahead of them in the same situation regarding the division, being 10.5 GB themselves. Both teams have 7 games remaining vs the Braves.

IMO, everything should essentially be finished by the end of August. We play 2 vs LAA, 3 @ CHC, 4 @ Pirates, 4 @ Mets, 3 vs NYY, 3 vs Giants, 3 vs Mets, 3 @ Giants, 3 @ Rockies, 1 @ Dodgers. By the time August is over. At that point, the season series vs the Mets is complete.

Going into September, we'd still have the 7 vs the Phillies, and 3 vs the Marlins. We'd have the Nationals 6 times.

I say we just run the table. Don't lose a series the rest of the way and burn it all on our way out of town on the road.

I just can’t get on board with this. He gets a bump for position and being above average defensively. But I would hate him on my team at 34 mil. Like you said. The 7 year after that will be ugly.

He plays above-average defense, has solid offensive numbers for a SS and his numbers with RISP are good. The price tag may be a little high for me, but he's super solid.

I agree he is a very solid SS. But would any of us be happy if he played in ATL and was our highest paid player? I wouldn't.. making 20 million..sure 34..nope!!

And the Mutts have him at 34 million for the next 7 years I believe... facepalm.gif

I agree! I think I prefer our own guy, and he's making nothing LOL

34 million ain't what it used to be. I know it's hard to wrap a head around 30-40 mil annually as the new baseline, but that's what we're going to see going forward for your all-star level players. Elite guys like Ohtani and Soto are gonna be north of 40 million most likely. Really makes you appreciate the guys we have locked up.

It's hard to say what the new baseline is. Last year it was high AAV on short deals or long contracts at supressed AAV rates. Position is also a factor as elite 1B's are making low to mid 20's in this market. Age will be a big factor with Soto and Ohtani is just a unicorn.

Either way, Lindor is just a better version of Swanson. Good all around player where defese is their best skill. If I'm spending 30+ on a guy I want it to be for offense.

Is he better than Swanson? I think Swanson is a consensus better defender at this point, and offensively Swanson is at least his peer if not better.

If you are looking at this year, Swanson is an overall better player.. barely better on offense and better defensively. Now He will also be making 26 million next year, so he is not too far off what Lindor makes.. that said 8 million could net you a good mid inning reliever or nice super sub type player.

Or in the Braves case, 8 million can buy your a 4 win second baseman that will drive you insane, or a 4-6 win center fielder who hasn't reach his full potential (for a few more years at least)...
Not enough.. fine how about a solid #2 pitcher for 1 million next year..

Alek Manoah, who was recently sent down by the Blue Jays, played his first rookie ball game today against the Florida Complex League Yankees and his numbers were borderline impossible to comprehend because they were so bad. 2.2 IP, 11 ER, 10 H, 2 HR, 3 K, 2 BB.

This dude was MONEY last year and had a slightly higher WAR than Max Fried, for reference. He was also very good in 2021. The yips, I'm guessing? This is Rick Ankiel level stuff.

What are you talking about? 8 million total can net you the starting SS for the NL in the ASG.
