Official CBA Negotiation Thread

This also means that Max Fried will be the last ever pitcher to win the Silver Slugger award

Max would have hit some homers too. Sad. Manfred can take his stamp on the game and put it where the sun doesn't shine. All it's going to do is make games longer.

So, with the no draft pick thing

Since freeman didn’t sign before the lock out

It means he falls under the new rules (whenever they resume) and we won’t get a pick, right?

If he leaves (which I believe he is)

In the past when the CBA was reworked and had updates on this process they didn't go into effect until the following offseason.

And more enjoyable. Watching pitchers hit is lame.

The argument for pitchers hitting is wild.

Its such a buzzkill when you've got runners on 2nd/3rd with 1 out and the 7th hitter strikes out so the 8th hitter is IBBed and the pitcher k's with futile swings.

Who wants to watch that?

Unless you the team pitching

I am so glad to never have to see Snitker let a pitcher hit in the bottom of the fourth and immediately walk the bases loaded again

Folks who can barely understand pinch hitting for the pitcher “strategy” pride themselves on that knowledge, so they don’t want to see that point of pride go away. Same deal with them finally understanding earned run and RBI rules, therefor rejecting more advanced stats.

I’m ecstatic to never see the best hitting pitcher put up a .600 OPS, while the rest are around .400. Complete and utter waste of time for them to bat, and it will help remove excitement killing events every time they come to bat.

You know I never thought I would type these words 5-10 years ago but I literally don't care when baseball comes back. We won a championship and that's good enough for me. I am not on board with the rules changes, the worst being the cheapening of the regular season by adding teams to the playoffs. Maybe it's just me closing in on 50 years old, maybe not, but I know I won't live to see the next one should it take 25 years to get it.

Well…bye…

Addition by subtraction around here.

Acuna CF
Freeman 1B
Riley 3B
Soler LF
Ozuna DH
Albies 2B
Duvall RF
TdA C
Swanson SS

Man that would be very right hand heavy. I wonder what it would take to get Olson from the A's and put him as DH.

Soler is as good vs RHP as almost every available LHH, which is think is more important than where the batter actually stands.

The issue with Soler that I seem to keep overlooking is how bad he’s still grading out defensively. I think I’d rather have Pham or Conforto.

I enjoy the NL style of play as well and will be sad to see it go. It definitely takes away strategy from the game. I personally don't really care if pitchers can't hit. It's a position on the field and should have the same requirements as every other position.

And it's not like we see a ton of great hitting catchers either. We watched guys like Henry Blanco and Eddie Perez and for years and they weren't exactly tearing it up most of the time. Corky Miller anyone?

Anyways, that's the end of my rant. I'll move past it and watch the Braves like always.

For the money - absolutely.

I understand a lot of folks are high on him and think he'll be OK, but I think we got lucky in the short time he was here - I found myself constantly hoping everyone was going to hit it somewhere else (just like with Ozuna). If you're going to wind up going with Duvall in CF and it's going to be a while before Acuna's truly ready, a Soler/Duvall/Ozuna outfield scares me to death and will probably keep the pitching staff awake at night.

Not much strategy to it lol. Just walk the 8th place hitter, to get to the pitcher and you can get out of jams. Makes it extremely hard to get long rallies going with the pitcher. The 2020 season was fun with no pitcher, glad the DH is here to stay.

But there is. You are also forgetting pinch hitting, and deciding whether to leave a pitcher in. Bunting runners over will essentially not happen anymore. Maybe you think these strategies are insignificant. But they have been part of the game since it's inception and, imo, it's the little things like this that make baseball so great.
