Official CBA Negotiation Thread

It'd be nice if the two sides would be adults and get this **** moving.

The most frustrating part about this whole situation is, we could all see this coming, when prior to the 2020 season the two sides had so much trouble coming together. So I just can't understand how the two sides didn't work together in advance to avoid the of potential missed games.

b/c the goal is not to make the sport better. The goal is not to partner and both do well.

The goal is to beat the other side. So the owners are going to use missed games to break the union and win.

I'm not a salary cap guy. However, the main thing I like about a salary cap is tying it to revenues because then there are incentives to work together to raise revenues.

Owners see the players as an expense not as partners.

The problem with both sides is that if you give them inch, they'll take a mile. MLB owners want expanded playoffs and more money while not increasing salaries. Players naturally want a better cut of profits, but are pretty unrealistic in their demands.

Yeah, the players seem to be attempting to correct the screw ups they made in negotiating the last 2 CBAs. That doesn't seem entirely "fair", but they have to try to claw back some of the power they let get away from them.

So what happens if stalemate ? Just wait it out until the players eventually crack? Because they will.
Those yacht payments and absurdly expensive mortgage payments don’t just disappear... those alimony checks don’t go away ..... not saying most players would be in any sort of financial trouble but pretty soon some will I would tend to think.... or am I way off base here in my thinking ?

As I understand it, MLBPA only pays for player health insurance during a stoppage. Since most players fall in that minimum salary bucket, probably haven’t cashed many checks from that $550k salary, and almost certainly haven’t saved large chunks of it, I would guesstimate half of all players on 40 man rosters will be hurting pretty bad financially.

On the other hand, some ownership groups have massive debt payments that still need to be paid, and it might get rough paying them without revenue.

That’s not even mentioning fan backlash if the season is even partially compromised. They need to figure this out…ruining your own meal ticket just so you can keep a bigger slice of the pie seems like a foolish idea.

Not sweating it. They will be back when they are back. This is nowhere near as bad as losing the WS in 1994. Madness is right around the corner, NBA stretch drive, USFL coming, and NASCAR is back. There are plenty of other options for sports fans. If baseball wants to figuratively commit suicide let it die. Roids can't save it this time.

MLBPA continues to put forth pretty reasonable proposals to shift more money to younger players, now that FOs have wisely opted to avoid paying top-dollar to aging veterans.

28th is the key date to get something done, maybe a day or so later. Would give 4 weeks to get in ST. Free agency would basically be crazy post-lockout. I'd imagine players already have deals lined up once the CBA is done if it ever is.

Players told the owners they would not approve expanded playoffs in 2022 if any regular season games are missed. The owners suddenly decided they will meet for negotiations every day next week.

Smart move by the players. They know expanded playoffs are priority #1 for the owners.

If you can get there by tomorrow or Sunday I have three tickets you can have.

If not, there will probably another one I won't be able to attend.

Yeah this weekend is definitely a no go. That's something I would have to actually plan for way in advance. Too many commitments with family, school, work, etc. Appreciate the offer though.
