Official Draft Day, Post-Draft Thread

Waters stated that he's signing his contract on Friday so I think that should be in the done category as well right?

A draft where everybody was happy and we took BPA. Amazing

Well mostly happy...some people are complaining that the Braves were basically only able to draft three guys because of how much it's going to cost to sign Wright and Waters.

To me that's silly. I'd rather go after high end talent every time. It's been stated plenty before but Wright is a huge get for the #5 pick.

Well, giving Wright the highest signing bonus in the current slotting era is certainly something worth questioning.

What cost, BPA?

Can you identity anyone that actually said that seriously?

There was probably some speculation and "what ifs" but I don't think anyone was close to guaranteeing that he'd sign under slot. But don't let that get in the way of a pointless angry tirade.

I'd do it again and again to get the BPA. Draft is a crapshoot and I want the "perceived" best player on the board. Wright was that easily. Loaded up on Relief prospects and catchers. I didn't think we'd get him cheap and I don't care that we didn't. A hometown discount is one thing, but "show me money."

I'm all on board with drafting BPA. All on board with giving him over slot.

Agree with questioning $7M+ though. It must have been the reason he slid to #5, so it's understandable.

Well, 7 million makes me think we will see some reporting to that effect though the Braves still played it pretty nonchalantly saying they didn't expect him to fall to them.

I guess I have to question setting records with the #5 pick. As much as I like Wright, he was never viewed as a Harper or Price or Strasburg as far as going 1-1.

It's fine though. Not my money and they got someone they like. So moving along.

I thought there was more power this year than before as well.

I assume Bacon will begin his career as a starter and that will be interesting.

Let's shift gears a bit. Where do we think Kyle starts? Rome? Florida? Surely, they won't send him to Danville

Minor threw 14 innings at Rome the year he was drafted. He then started the next year in AA for 87 IP, then AAA for 33 IP, then Atlanta for 40 IP a little more than a year after being drafted.

I hope they don't rush Wright to MLB that quickly, but I could see them handling him very similarly to Minor. Whether he starts in high or low A probably has more to do with available rotation slots than anything else.
