Official off-season trade rumor and suggestion thread

So, there was a little rumor floating around last week (after the Gomes signing) that the Braves were talking with Andruw Jones. I won't speak to its veracity, but this article in today's Boston Globe got me thinking about it again:

Andruw Jones, OF/DH, free agent — After two seasons with Rakuten in Japan, where he hit 26 home runs with 94 RBIs (.845 OPS) and 24 homers with 71 RBIs (.820 OPS), with OBPs of .391 and .394, Jones will be returning to major league baseball. Agent Scott Boras claims there are at least two teams interested in Jones as a DH and/or righthanded platoon player. A 10-time Gold Glove outfielder, Jones would return with 434 homers and 1,289 RBIs.

Would be a nice compliment to Gomes, put some more butts in the seats. Doubt anything comes to fruition, but it's interesting to imagine.

If we have to suck atleast let's do it with players we love. Bring Andruw back, bring Smoltz in as a reliever once he goes into hall of fame too. We can always fulfill Julio Franco's dream to play till he is 50.

I heard about that rumor too but also heard that the talks with Jones fell through. Maybe after Gomes was signed? Whatever the case the last I heard it wasn't happening.

Lets just bring back the whole gang. Is Keith Lockhart still alive? Call him up to play 2B. Is Vinny Castilla some where? Have him platoon in 3B. Brian Jordan is probably still in ATL? Have him play OF.

I hear Brian Jordan is in good enough shape to give a good "Two step" Anderson impression in left field. :)

Can't get anyone w/ #Braves to rule it out, so might be possible RT @coltongentry3: @DOBrienAJC any chance Braves try to bring Andruw back?

You want to platoon a right handed hitter who can't play defense with a right handed hitter who plays OK defense?

Not sure I see the benefit other than maybe a few more tickets sold - not likely enough extra to cover his salary.

Gomes his lefties well ... or at least as well as can be expected given his decrepitude and general lack of baseball ability.

Jones is a bit of a wild card offensively, and has traditionally hit better against lefties than righties, but his numbers in Japan are impressive-ish -- he could also ostensibly play all three outfield positions and provide some nice thump off the bench.

And then there's the attendance and marketing component, which simply cannot be discounted.

I thought this was cool. It's nice to see that CJ is at least aware and appreciative of Braves history.

@C_Johnson28: @DOBrienAJC @gtdave7273 One of the best defensive players in history and 400 homers. And you say no because of Ks vs BB. And .254???
