Official official offseason thread

Are we up against the Dodgers for Dansby? Do they have an in-house option to replace Turner?

Cubs as well for sure and maybe several other teams. Surprised Correa is waiting. Bogaerts deal is insane. Dodgers have indicated they may move Lux to SS.

Looking at the prices I won’t won’t be mad at AA for not signing one of the SS. The prices are ridiculous.

I think right now a lot of teams are contenders with the expanded playoffs. So there are fewer and fewer teams that will trade guys so FA's are setting the market price. This will eventually correct itself with teams no longer willing to cripple their payroll with huge contracts. Then teams like the Dodgers and Stankees will clean up on FA looking for big paydays.

Go look at what every other team caught doing the exact same thing the Braves we're doing got hit with. IIRC, the Red Sox got caught the year before the Braves and got a slap on the wrist.

The Braves got their farm system nuked.

I can understand the voiding of the contracts for the guys who were signed outside of the rules (and if I recall correctly, the Braves didn't get the money back), but I thought the extension of the penalties that governed pool size and individual bonus amounts for several more signing periods was too extreme. I could have swallowed something like a one-year total ban, but I think the penalties went on for three signing periods and we've only now just emerged from them.

there will still be regret. every dollar that goes to one player can’t go to another. teams spending these dollars won’t be able to do it forever.

The Dodgers have done it for a while and so far this offseason, they have taken a step back on the $$$ spending. With Machado possibly opting out after this season, I think it makes sense to sign Boegarts. Will be curious to see how they sustain these contracts for years to come.

Machado has 32 million for the next 5 years on his contract. Would be a FA at 36. I guess he could opt out and get more money from the Padres or someone else next winter.

280 Million dollars is outrageous for someone who OPSd 830 last year.

Smart teams will find an OF that could easily replace that for about half the price.

I believe they know Machado will opt out next year and Soto is gone the year after. 2023 is the best chance they have and Preller is making moves before he gets fired.

I want the Braves to sign Correa. We are still $75 million under the third tier of the luxury tax.

With all the talk of signing deGrom, I figured we'd at least make a big splash somewhere.

Still waiting.

I am in favor of something like 12 years, $350 million.

Swanson would be wise to wait out Correa. Then he'll really get overpaid. Seems to be me the Giants would just offer Correa what they were willing to pay Judge and maybe go another year or two longer on the deal. Although I did read somewhere that if they got any of the other shortstops, they would move them to another position and keep Crawford at short.
