Official official offseason thread

Turner does seem like a Cardinal. He's a talent, but he just annoys me so much.

I hadn't thought about the Cardinals being in the SS market, but DeJong has fallen off the face of the earth and Edman only played there out of necessity. Only thing that makes me think the Cards might power through with the status quo is that their 2nd round pick from 2020--Masyn Winn--is moving up through their system fairly quickly and spent a large part of the 2022 season in AA.

If the Mets sign deGrom for between 30-40 million for next year, they are giving approximately 100 million to 3 pitchers when their offense was their main problem last year.

The challenge the Mets are facing is that they already have the largest payroll, and just to run the same team out there again next year, it would be a ton more expensive. Curious to see how they handle this since they essentially need most of their rotation and almost entire bullpen.

Agreed. Somebody would have matched it.

You're probably right, but there's also a chance someone wouldn't and they could have saved some money. Now they'll never know. Yankees don't have the budget for him. Plus everything is on hold until they figure out Judge situation. Dodgers also have plenty of other needs they had to address first.

I can’t imagine someone giving an even more record breaking deal with an opt out. That was probably Diaz’s “buy it now” price, and the Mets pulled the trigger.

Cashman pretty much said they wont be in on the big name shortstops yesterday at his presser. If Judge leaves, i'm interesting what their alternative plan would be though.

I think he has to say that right now, as the goal is likely to resign Judge. And you don't want the backlash of looking to bring in a big name SS while losing out on Judge. You want it to appear that the big name SS is the guy that you pivot to

Wil Myers has his option declined so he will become a FA. May not be a bad target for LF....only if Ozuna and/or Rosario are sent packing of course.

If we found a way to get rid of both Rosario and Ozuna, a replacement of Pederson/Myers would be interesting.

That was one pretty bad contract. Curious what his market will look like. I (and no one else) have been clamoring for a decent back-up 1B (preferably a RHH) and Myers would be that. But I don't think there's a place for him with Ozuna and Heredia already in tow as RHH-hitting back-ups in the OF.
