Official official offseason thread

Is Arcia good at ss?

FG is projecting him for .249/.315/.407 and Swanson at .247/.309/.413 for 2023.

Statcast shows Arcia with a much stronger arm than Swanson: https://baseballsavant.mlb.com/lead...=player&year=2022&minThrows=100&pos=&team=144

Side note: it also shows that Grissom probably doesn't have the arm for SS, and is below MLB average even for 2B.

We should know by now that arm strength doesn't make a SS (remember all the idiots clamoring for Camargo to be the SS?), and there isn't a ton of recent data for Arcia's work at SS. However, with the Brewers he ranged from below average to above average, so I would estimate he's average or slightly below nowadays. Sprint speed isn't a direct measure of SS defensive skill, but it is a decent proxy for athleticism, and his 2022 sprint speed of 26.5 makes me think he will have below average range at SS. Then again, Andrelton isn't fast either (26.7) and he's still OK.

I said this the moment the Braves acquired Arcia, but he always struck me as the backup short term plan at SS. He represents a potentially MLB average bat with average or worse SS defense at a cost of $1.5M. Not exciting, but for a team with very little cap room and a 93+ win projection, he might be the smart play.

Or....AA blows past the cap. Who knows?

What's your most likely in order to bounce back/fall off in 2023?

Acuna to mvp level
Rosario to good rhp hitter
Ozuna to good hitter
Matzek to previous couple years
Yates to SD level
Olson to 2021 level
Contreras to 2021 level
Morton to 3.5 fWAR or better

Well the fact that Matzek had TJS after the season and will miss all of 2023, i'm betting he finishes last in that order.

Not that I necessarily disagree, but I thought I read where arm strength is harder to measure from the right side of the diamond due to so few throws at max effort/having their momentum going the opposite direction most of the time?

Glad to see we took care of Matzek. 1.5 this year and next with the hope he returns to form is a good bet. 5.5 mil club option in 25 could be a bargain if he bounces back as well. Decline it if he's cooked. Wonder if we re-sign Luke Jackson?

Forgot all about Luke. When is he expected to be healthy?

Bellinger officially non-tendered by LA, per Ken. Interested to see where he ends up. Might go back to LA on a cheaper deal but things have may have soured there.
