Never said they're done, but they're gonna have a similar team to last year, just alot more expensive.
 
I don’t think this Turner contract changes anything. Most projection systems had him getting at around $300m (Fangraphs $288m, Athletic $264m, Kiley McDaniel $300m, MLBTR $268m)

He definitely signed at the high end, but I wouldn’t read much into the 11 years. Phillies probably asked for more years so they could spread the AAV and luxury cap figure out.

I wouldn’t assume this has much impact on the number of years Dansby gets.

I think the one thing it does change is that there were four top-tier shortstops on the market and one of them went to a new team. It may not mean all that much, but as the available options lessen, the competition for those options will increase with someone getting left out.
 
I know the Giants are in on Correa along with who knows else but I hope AA is too. Hopefully there’s enough value there to make something work.

iirc the Marlins owner deliberately cashed in everything to win the WS so he could get a more hefty sale price.
 
The Phillies clearly prefer to stretch these mega deals out over long periods of time, so 11 years was just a way to bring down that AAV for luxury tax purposes. I'm sure they know full well they'll be paying a bench player $27M 8+ years from now, but that's the price for getting the 5 win player right now for that same $27M.

Unfortunately the Braves are going to have to outlast the competitive window the Phillies recently bought by continuing to build in a sustainable manner.
 
This is about the most Dombrowski move imaginable...he is nothing more than a "win now only" GM. Someone else will be worrying about the back half of the Harper/Turner deals.

They have the benefit of a top 5 payroll but not sure how easy success will come to them if they can't supplement the roster with an infusion of cheap minor league talent. So far they haven't really need able to. Don't forget Nola and Hoskins are free agents after this year. And Wheeler after 2 more. So they will need to keep paying high end talent. Although they have some top minor league pitching prospects. Also Harper is out half the year and who knows how he will bounce back from major surgery. The Phillies still have a lot of questions with the rotation and bullpen and defense as well.

JTR is a nearly 32 year old catcher who just played a **** ton of innings last year and had a career year that he’s unlikely to repeat.

Painter is the only great pitching prospect they have. Abel was mediocre last year and there’s very little position player wise.

they’re going to need to perpetually spend but the previous spending will prohibit that somewhat in the future.

Then it's just a matter of if Yanks want to sign Correa for how much.
 
Salaries are going to continue to escalate. So the 27 mil to Turner right now will look more favorable in 6 years when 2.5 win players are getting that. Same with Harper.
