Official official offseason thread

Heyward was a terrible hitter propped up by good OF D. Turner is a very good hitter.

It’s still a very long deal, way too long. But from the Phils side, they can figure 35mm/year first 6 years them 17-18 or so for the last 5.

1. Heyward was not a terrible hitter before signing that contract. Turner is a better hitter than Heyward was, that is true. But isn't as far apart as you make it seem.

2. It's not really the point I was making. People said that 25 million per year wouldn't be that bad later in his contact due to rising contract prices. Turned out 25 million is still a not of money 7v years later

I have no idea who this is or if he’s legit, but it’s worth noting. Also, what would be the equivalent for us in terms of the prospects he names?

Why is everyone hating on the Walker signing. The Phil’s just signed a 30 year old pitcher to a 18 per deal. Walker was pretty good last year and has shown to be good in others. Braves spent20 mill on a 70 year old who struggled horribly last year. I guess I don’t see why this 4 year deal is so awful.

It was a career year for Walker and he was still fairly mediocre. He's 30 which is when a lot of pitchers who are a little above average start to come crashing back down. If it was a two year deal at that AAV, it would be fine. If it was a 4 year deal at a lower AAV then it would probably be a good bet. But 4 years at $18 per for a 30 year old who has never been special is a lot.

Paying Charlie $20 could be argued as an overpay too. But overpays on one year contracts are less problematic for a team. Also, I remember reading something about AA having some advanced analytics that showed Charlie was pretty unlucky last year and actually pitched better than his stats. I can't remember where I read it though.

1 year vs 4.
Morton was much better than Walker has ever been as recently as 2021. was coming off a non-arm injury in 2022.
has really never been that good and was pretty bad in 2021. got lit up in the second half of last year.
historically has a HR problem and now pitches at CBP. had a HR problem in the second half.

phillies are basically paying him for what he did in the first half of last year. i’m very happy this is the SP move they made.
