Official official offseason thread

Well...as a prospect whoare...I think those who love pitching will be...happy to know there is some..way down on the farm. The Braves top Spects left are :
Shuster (Meh)
Owen Murphy 3 years away
JR Ritchie 3 years away
Cole Phillips 3 years away
AJ Smith Shawver(my fav) 2-3 years away
Adam Maier (sleeper) 3 years away
Spencer Schwellenbach

Position :
Diego Benitez - Big potential 3-4 years
Ambioris Tavarez - see Diego
Geraldo Quintero - 5'8. Enough tools..He's no Albies..lol. Decent.
Ignacio Alvarez / 3 or less years away. Hit tool. Impressed early.
Jesse Franklin - Make or break. Dream on the power and tools.
Douglas Glod - 3-4 years.

I only listed the ones I was intrigued by. Cusick, Shea, Drew Waters, Muller, Malloy...just a few I liked but they got us Olson and others. We've traded Salinas..I liked him.

I do not like the trade for Murphy by itself. I do think when added maybe to something else it'll be fine. AA has turned a top heavy, honestly modest system into decent returns but his real work has been keeping a hell of a core together. The bottom of the farm system has a few pieces of coal but if they get polished enough, it's going to be middle of the pack. I think that's 3 years away and I thought it was already 4 years away. That's a pessimistic timeline though.

I say all this to say, the international market and draft will be important (as always) but if we're expecting other trades of all star types in the near future it won't happen. But then again, with the core in place, it shouldn't matter. I give AA a lot of credit for using the farm the way it's meant to be used. Can't keep em all.

Interesting that you said “…but if we’re expecting other trades of all star types I’m the near future it won’t happen.” It’s true. We’ve tapped out our minor league system. That’s why I think it’s time for AA to slightly adjust his thinking on value bc now we can only fill holes with money. If we’re not willing to “top off” the roster through free agency, there’s not other ways to do so. We don’t have players on the farm we can promote and we can not trade them for big leaguers. Money is our only significant asset so it’s time to use it. Go sign our ss.

If AA was able to trade Grissom instead of Contreras. Then he could sign Correa. Move Riley to LF and sign Dansby.

2B Albies
SS Swanson
CF Harris

Rosario
TDA/Murphy/Contreras
Arcia

So good and bulletproof we don't even need trainers. Imagine if we sent Chip Caray instead of Grissom...Grissom could be the playoff pinch-runner....

They seem to be heavy on prospective utility guys like Milligan, Shewmake, Waddell, and Conley. No OFs of note unless one sees toolsy guys like Mezquita and Morton as legit.

Curious to see how they fill up the rosters next spring.

If AA signs Correa…

Murphy C
Olson 1B
Albies 2B
Riley 3B
Correa SS
Rosario LF
Harris CF
Acuna RF
Ozuna DH

Terrifying.

My only issue is you didn't project Snit's lineup.

It'd look more like this:

1. Acuña
2. Olson
3. Riley
4. Correa
5. Albies
6. Ozuna
7. Rosario
8. Murphy
9. Harris

DANGEROUS.

Why is Vice Chairman Emeritus not listed on here?

Could you imagine how strong the broadcast booth would be if Snit would properly rotate the guys in?

Instead of Chip/Frenchy only, you could rotate it like back in the day on TBS.

3 Game Series:

Game 1:
Innings 1-5 - Chip Caray & Jeff Francoeur
Innings 6-9 - Ben Ingram & Joe Simpson

Game 2:
Innings 1-5 - Ben Ingram & Joe Simpson
Innings 6-9 - Chip Caray & Jeff Francoeur

Game 3:
Innings 1-5 - Chip Caray & Joe Simpson
Innings 6-9 - Ben Ingram & Jeff Francoeur

You could even find space for Lemmer and Powell to rest the guys optimally.

Lineup would be SCARY.

Yeah...that's why I didn't include them. They may all have a utility purpose but to me that's it. I didn't forget Brendol...definitely tools.

Pitching is so volatile....while I like the lower arms a lot, attrition is real. I wouldn't mind swinging for the prospect fence next year. Only for position players. Of course with OF,2B,3B,1B...except LF,SS locked up, you can rebuild your system during the course of the contracts the next few years.

I see a lot of people talking about Milwaukee but is crazy to see that Oakland gave the biggest piece of the trade and got the worst return. 😂🤣😂

I like the move. Defense matters, this isn’t fantasy baseball where the only thing that matters is offense. We might actually be able to throw guys out now. Pitchers should love throwing to him as well. I like Contreras, I really did but he’s a DH. We obviously didn’t want him anywhere near the plate otherwise this trade wouldn’t have been made. Murphy had a sort of a breakout yr offensively last yr too. Getting him out of Oakland should only help his bat. He’s a stud plain and simple. Are we better than we were before the trade? I think the obvious answer is yes. There is still more work to be done and some may deem this move unnecessary but I’m not one of them. This team needed an upgrade defensively at the position in the worst way.
